Independent Film Festival

An independent film festival is a great place to experience a variety of different films that you wouldn’t be able to see released on the big screen in your local theatre. These are low budget films that are released by independent film companies. However low budget doesn’t have to mean low quality as some people have the misconception of. In many cases the production company is a subsidiary of larger ones so they do have talented people working behind the senses as well as sharing their talents on the screen.

The concept of independent films is not new but having viable means of sharing them annually in various location of the world. Independent films can be dated back to the very early 1900’s while independent film festivals didn’t start emerging until the mid 1930’s. It is often hard to get a major studio to back independent films but with the exposure some of them get at these film festivals some of them do get recognized and backed by the powerful production companies.

These days you can find plenty of independent film festivals to either take part in by submitting your film or by coming to view them. In most cases independent film festivals hold true to the concept of offering unknown film makers a place to present their work. Some of them though have become a place for producers from subsidiaries of big name companies to bring in their stuff.

You can find independent film festivals that target specific areas of films as well. For example there are independent film festivals that focus on children’s films, sports films, wildlife films, and women’s films. The internet is a great place to find the various types of independent film festivals that are taking place both by type of films and location.

If you are a film maker you can also do some research on the various independent film festivals where you can submit your films. This is a very low cost way of getting the exposure you need to help you secure funding for future films. It is also a way to find out what other people have to say about your films so you know what areas you need to work on.
