You should have a quality palette where you can have multiple colors available to you at one time. You only want a small amount of each color on the palette at a time though or it will dry out and it won’t adhere properly to the canvass.

It is important to use a quality paint brush for oil painting to give your artwork the finished look it deserves. Look for sturdy paint brushes that are made from stiff hog hairs. You will find them in a variety of lengths as well as shapes. Try out some different ones and find what you are comfortable using. Don’t buy cheap oil painting brushes though because they won’t last long and you won’t get good results.

Oil painting can be a great hobby to show your creative side, but many people have a hard time with all the variables that affect the look of the painting. You will need to educate yourself with the specifics of oil painting by reading information on the internet, reading a book, or participating in an oil painting class. There are even videos you can purchase to teach yourself at home if an oil painting class doesn’t fit into your schedule.
