Painting Supplies
For any painting project that is a necessity or for leisure activity, you need to have a variety of good quality painting supplies on hand. For safety reasons, you need to make sure you always have plenty of fresh air getting into the area where you are painting. This will prevent the fumes from the paint from affecting you in an adverse manner. You also need to prep your work area and mask off any areas that don’t need to be painted. If you are painting on an easel you might want to place a drop cloth on the floor.
Unless you plan to finger paint or use an airbrush gun, you will need paint brushes. You need to purchase good quality brushes so the bristles won’t shed and then stick in the dried paint. You might consider using synthetic filament brushes instead. You need to use quality paint rollers as well for the same reason. It is a good idea to have a couple of clean rags and a sponge handy in case you need them. You can generally take care of spills and runs immediately before they dry if you have these tools.
It is always necessary to double check that you have enough paint for the project. Nothing is worse than finding you are a quart shy of completing the second coat on your house! It is always a good idea to buy a little bit more paint than you need just to make sure you have enough. You can store the left over paint in a cool, dry area and access it for future touch ups as needed.
The quality of your paint is important. While it may cost you three times more than the inexpensive paint, it will last longer and the results will be better. In the long run buying cheap paint costs you more time and money. This is because it won’t hold up well and you will end up repainting again down the road. It is important that the type of paint you purchase is compatible with the type of project you are doing.
To help ensure you have the right painting supplies before you start any project, write a list. Go over each step of the process in your mind so you can identify the painting supplies you will need to complete them. Sometimes you can find lists of painting supplies for a given project online. This is a good tool to use to compare with the list you developed.
