Ask for the repair and maintenance logs on a used forklift so you can review how well it was taken care of. Take a used forklift for a test drive yourself before you purchase it. How well does it drive? Is it smooth or very bouncy because this can affect how well it is going to move your loads. Check the tilt gears and the reverse. Pay close attention to any leaks because they indicate there is something wrong with the forklift and they can be a danger in the work place as well.
Operate the used forklift in a figure eight pattern. This is a very good way to find out if the steering and tracking are still in tact. If you have a hard time performing this maneuver then you don’t want to invest in that particular used forklift. Make sure you check the tires. If you identify uneven wear patterns it can indicate that the axle is out of alignment.
