Construction vehicles are specially designed, heavy duty vehicles that are used for the execution of engineering and construction tasks. There are all kinds of construction equipment. The following is a list of types of construction equipment as well as their associated function:
- Backhoes consist of a tractor, a front shovel / bucket and a small backhoe. These small vehicles are commonly used in urban construction areas.
Bulldozers are very heavy duty vehicles that are propelled by a track much like a tank and have large dozer blades attached to the front of the vehicles.
Combat engineering vehicles (CEV) are armored vehicles designed for engineering work on the battlefield of for the transportation of sappers.
Compact excavators are tracked or wheeled vehicles that are very heavy to balance their relatively small size and typically include a backfill blade and independent boom swing.
Road rollers (or roller-compactors) are used to compact gravel, dirt, concrete or asphalt in the construction of roads and foundations.
Rotary tillers are motorized cultivators that work the soil by way of a series of rotating blades.
Cranes can be derrick or tower equipped with pulleys and cables that are used to lift and lower various types of materials.
Drag line excavators are heavy duty vehicles used in surface mining and civil engineering projects. A dragline bucket is suspended for a boom and maneuvered with chains and ropes.
Drilling machines are typically used for foundation construction or for oil or water drilling.
Excavators are engineering vehicles which consist of a cab mounted on a pivot and a backhoe which is all mounted on wheels or tracks.
Feller bunchers are large logging machines with an attachment that cuts trees.
Forklifts are heavy duty trucks used to lift and transport materials using steel forks.
Forwarders carry logs from stumps upwards and brings them to a roadside landing
Fresno scrapers was one of the first modern earth earthmoving scraper designed to increase capacity of traditional scrapers
Front loaders are a type of tractor that use a square and wide tilting bucket on movable arms.
Graders have large blades attached to create a level surface in soil or foundations and streets.
Harvesters are used for felling, delimbing and bucking trees
Pavers are used to lay asphalt
Scrapers are used for earthmoving and have a sharp horizontal front edge.
Skid loaders have lift arms that can be affixed with a variety of labor saving devices.
Skidders are used for logging and pulling cut trees.
Tractors are general purpose industrial vehicles used for pulling various attachments and loads.
Pile drivers are mechanical devices used to convert kinetic and potential energy into mechanical energy.
