Unemployment is a huge issue all over the world. Millions of people searching for work have been unable to secure it. There are a variety of reasons for this including the economy, the jobs available, a person’s skills, education, and criminal history.

The economy in the United States is very tight right now. Therefore, many places just aren’t hiring because sells are down. This in turn leads to less sells because the community has unemployed people who aren’t buying goods or services. It is a downward spiraling effect.

The jobs available may not match a person’s skills or education. For example, many people after 09/11 who lost their jobs couldn’t find another job in that market because of the abundance of workers available. They then found they didn’t have the skills for many of the other jobs out there, or were overqualified for positions lower than their skill level. On the other hand, industries including construction had thousands of unfilled jobs because the market didn’t offer individuals with the necessary skills to choose from.

Expanding your skills and education level can greatly improve your chances of finding employment. Most colleges around the nation report that when the job market gets smaller, their enrollment increases. This is because people decide it is a good time to complete their degree or attend a trade school.

Regardless of your education, skills, and work history, if you have a criminal history you will find getting a job very difficult. Most companies require you to pass a background check prior to offering employment. For some jobs, it doesn’t matter, but more and more places are requiring it for safety reasons. If you do have a criminal record, it is important that you are up front about it as well as try to explain the situation in a positive way. Discuss what you learned from the event; discuss how you completed the requirements of your sentence, any work history since your conviction, and your goals regarding future employment. Some employers out there are willing to give you a chance if you don’t hide the information from them. You may have to settle for a job you don’t like at low pay in the beginning, but you can build on that. You can use that employer as a reference for a better job down the road.

Finding employment can be difficult regardless of the reason. Unemployment can cause stress for you as well as financial difficulties. There are services available for free that offer assistance with resumes, completing job applications, and tips for successful job interviews.

If you are new to the workforce, or you have recently lost your job, the unemployment office in your area can assist you with finding work. They do not charge for any of the services. They are locally administered under the U.S. Department of Labor.

The unemployment office works with both employers and employers, to ensure the needs on both sides are met. Employers do not pay for their services either. Employers give the agency listings of jobs available with information on required skills, rate of pay, hours, and other important information. Each person who comes in looking for work completes and assessment. This assessment lists skills, how much per hour you are looking to earn, the hours you are available, and any previous work history.

The employment office then matches up the needs of the employers with the skills of those looking for work. The results are only qualified applicants are referred to the employer, and employees aren’t sent on a wild chase after jobs that they just aren’t’ qualified for.

Once matches have been made, the unemployment office will possibly administer any required testing such as a typing skills test. You may be given information to contact the employer or be told the employer will be in contact with you. As new matches are available you will be contacted. You can select to not be contacted at any time, and you are not required to follow up on any lead you are not interested in.

In addition, the unemployment office is a valuable resource for assistance with writing a resume and cover letters, finding out what employers are looking for, and brushing up on your interview classes. Some unemployment offices offer classes for free lead by businesses in the community. These classes help you with finding a job, getting clothing for interviews and going to work, as well as information on childcare and job retention. If you need services that aren’t available at your unemployment office, they will be able to refer you to other agencies for such services. If you do not feel your local unemployment office is working with you as they should, you can file a complaint. Every unemployment office has the contact information available to the public.

Unemployment services are those provided under the U.S. Department of labor to help you secure employment, maintain employment, and to help you file complaints against employers and unemployment benefits that have been denied.

Most people seek services from unemployment agencies for help with finding their first job, upgrading to a new job, or securing employment after losing their recent job for one reason or another. Unemployment services are often valuable to those recently released from prison too.

Maintaining employment after you have been hired can be challenging. It is important that you come in as scheduled, call in if you will be late or can’t come in. You need to be dressed properly every day and have a good work ethic. Some people want to work, but struggle when life throws curveballs such as a sick child or appointments that have to be scheduled during work hours. If this is the case, a job coach can be assigned that will help the individual develop skills for managing and balancing work with home. Often, job coaches work with the employers in the area too, and they work together to find what will benefit both the company and the employees. Businesses often work well with unemployment agencies because it costs them money when the have to continually retrain because of turnover rates.

Unemployment services are available to help you file complaints against employers. Such complaints stem from unsafe working conditions, not paying for overtime hours as regulated by law, hiring people without proper identification, illegal paying practices, and types of harassment on the job. Laws protect workers who file such complaints. The unemployment service with file the complaint on your behalf and investigate the findings. The goal is to resolve the issue and to get compensation for those involved if it applies to the issue on the table.

The most common filing the unemployment sees if regarding the denial of unemployment benefits. They can help you file an appeal, prepare the case, and come to the phone hearing with you. The unemployment services are very valuable and offered to you at no charge. If you think you can benefit from any of these services, give them a call.

Losing your job can be emotionally and financially devastating. Filing for unemployment benefits can help you have some income while you are trying to secure other employment. Unemployment benefits result from employers paying into the fund, then employees who are eligible receive the benefits when they have been separated from employment through circumstances they had no control over. Such circumstances include layoffs, closings of businesses, and environmental disasters.

The amount of unemployment benefits a person is entitled to depends on how much they have earned in their work history and how much they employer they separated from paid in. The amount will never be the same as or more than your regular earnings, but it helps to have some type of income coming in.

The process for filing for unemployment can be lengthy. It can take up to several hours to complete all the information .The requirements vary by state. You can file by mail, through your local unemployment office, or online. Eligibility criteria varies by state, however the U.S. Department of Labor has some guidelines that apply regardless of the state you plan to apply in. You must meet all eligible work requirements including being legally able to work in the United States. You must be determined that the unemployment status was not due to any fault of your own.

It is important that you file for unemployment benefits immediately. You do not know how long it will be before you find another job and start receiving regular paychecks again. It takes between 2 and 6 weeks for your claim to be processed. Once you are determined eligible, your payments will be backdated to the second week you were unemployed. This is because federal law requires a one week waiting period.

You are required to look for work as a stipulation when you file for unemployment. It is important to understand that if you are medically unable to work, then you are not eligible for unemployment benefits because you do not have the option of working under federal law. The unemployment office can help you to file your claim as well as answer any questions you may have about the process.

Unemployment insurance is a program that allows funds that employers pay in to be accumulated, then disbursed to those who are unemployed if the separation was not due to the employee being at fault. It is a Federally mandated program, under the U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration. Unemployment insurance can be applied for when a person has been laid off, hours reduced, or the business closes. All of these situations are beyond the employee’s control. The unemployment insurance allows the employee to have some income while searching for new employment.

The amount of unemployment insurance a person receives is based on their earnings over the previous year. The percentage they receive is different in every state. You can choose to have taxes taken out of your unemployment insurance payments, or choose to get the full amount. Generally unemployment insurance benefits are sent out on a weekly basis.

To receive unemployment insurance payments, you must file a claim in the state of employment. This can be done at a local Unemployment office, Workforce Center, or even online in most states. You will need to provide information including social security number and your work history. Your claim will then be processed. If it is approved, payments will be backdated to the date you filed.

If your claim for unemployment insurance is denied, you will be notified by mail. You can choose to file an appeal if you don’t agree with the decision. This appeal can be done over the phone. You may wish to file the appeal with your local unemployment office. They can help you process it correctly as well as come to the phone hearing with you.

To continue receiving unemployment insurance benefits, you must comply with the requirements ongoing. You must continue to look for work. In some cases, you have to submit a detailed log of who you contacted for employment and when. You may be required to make a certain number of contacts each week or each month. You can continue to receive unemployment insurance benefits until the specific dollar amount it has been determined you can receive has been reached or until your find other employment. Which ever happens first.

There are exceptions to this. Federal programs and state programs allow for an extension of unemployment insurance benefits in areas where there unemployment rate is very high. This allows people to continue having some spending power. The President may extend unemployment insurance benefits for victims of a disaster area while rebuilding is taking place. Also, the Federal government offers an extension if workers find themselves unemployed due to U.S. Trade Policies.

Students often feel overwhelmed when it comes to writing a resume. Your first resume is an important document that can help you land your first ‘real’ job. You might have worked places where you had to fill out a simple job application, or perhaps you’ve never worked anywhere. Either way, writing a student resume doesn’t have to be a daunting prospect. With a little guidance, you can write the perfect resume which can help you get the job you want. First, let’s talk about how to make your resume look professional.

Your resume should be printed in black ink on high quality resume paper. Resume paper is heavier than regular printer paper. It is often textured and in a muted color like ivory or gray. Don’t use graphics or fancy fonts on your resume. Simple, common fonts like Times New Roman, Verdana, Tahoma and Courier are easy to read and look professional. Margins should be one inch all around the page, and there should be proper spacing in between entries.

At the top of the page is your contact information. You can make your name bigger than the address, email, fax and phone number. A few spaces down, you will want to put your objective. Your objective is a strong statement that details your intention and why you feel you are the right person for the job. Under the objective you will list educational details. List where you went to school or where you are going to school, the dates you attended, your main areas of study, your GPA and other pertinent information.

If you’ve worked at other jobs, you will list them next. If not, expand on your education further. Detail the classes you feel relate to the job you want. Talk about any awards or recognition you’ve achieved. List your special skills like computer experience or interpersonal skills that may relate to the job you’re applying for. It’s harder to get a job with zero work experience but it is certainly not impossible.

Writing a student resume is easier if you’ve got a little help. Ask a parent or teacher for assistance. Your school guidance counselor might also be a great place to turn. There are also some great books about writing student resumes that can offer a lot of help. Check out Creating Your High School Resume: A Step-by-Step Guide to Preparing an Effective Resume For Jobs, College and Training Programs by Kathryn Kraemer Troutman.

When you apply for graduate school, there is some important paperwork you will need to include. You will not only need to write an essay, but also a resume for graduate school. You might also hear this resume referred to as a curriculum vitae or CV. A CV is a bit different from a traditional resume because it is academically focused. You should ideally have a CV throughout your college career that you update as you gain more academic and professional experience.

The first thing you’ll want to list on your CV is your contact information. Your name goes at the top, in larger font than the rest of the text on the page. Under your name you will list your contact information which includes your address, telephone number and email address. Next, you will want to detail your education. This is a very important part of the document. Include where you attended school, what your major was, the dates you attended school and the date you received your degree, and your grade point average. If you are still in school, include your estimated date of degree completion.

Next, you will want to detail any awards or special recognition you’ve received. If the only award you’ve received are your graduation honors, include them as part of the first section which details your education. If you’ve had any experience as a teacher’s assistant or have provided any instruction to other students, it should be listed next. Then, you’ll want to detail any research projects you’ve been a part of.

Your CV should also include your technical and professional experience and any skills you possess. A CV can span several pages and is much longer than a traditional resume. You might also want to include things like reports or articles you’ve had published, professional organization affiliations and references from colleagues, peers or mentors. Many grad students seek professional help when writing their CV, as it is a very important document that is very detailed.

Writing a resume for graduate school can be a daunting process at first. With professional help or even the guidance of a teacher or counselor, you can write the ideal CV for yourself. As the years pass, you will find yourself updating and adding to your CV. This document will be not only what helps you get into graduate school but also what helps you land the job you want following graduation.

Writing samples can serve as templates when it comes to writing for yourself. A writing sample resume can show you how to put together a professional resume that will get attention. There are plenty of websites and books where you can see real resumes that can help you decide how you want your own resume to look. You shouldn’t feel like you’re plagiarizing or copying when you look at samples. You are simply borrowing the structure and getting ideas. You cannot plagiarize a resume because your skills, your experience, your education and your words will be your own, even if you use a certain format you saw on an example.

There are different types of resumes. The first and most popular type is the chronological resume. With a chronological resume, you list your education and experience in order from past to present. Many people go from the present to the past so your most recent job is listed first. This is convenient for employers because your last job is going to be the most important. Then there’s the functional resume. This resume focuses less on education and work history and more on achievements and abilities.

The third type of resume is a combined resume which blends the best characteristics of the chronological and functional resume into one. You will list your education and work history in chronological order, but you will also include sections for your skills, abilities and any awards or recognition you’ve received. The combined resume tells an employer everything they need to know to decide whether or not to call you in for an interview. The usual format is your job objective, followed by education, followed by work history. Then, you can include a section where your skills, abilities, awards and other achievements are highlighted.

In addition to a writing sample resume, you may also want to find some cover letter examples. The cover letter comes before the resume and helps summarize your intention and why you are a good candidate for the job. A cover letter should be in professional business letter format and should be approximately one page in length. Many job applicants also include a page of professional and/or personal references with their cover letter and resume.

Yes, all stereotypes apply in job interviews. A huge part of the job interview process is presenting the right image. Even if a man has a prefect resume and has all the skills necessary for the job, he won’t get the position without the perfect persona. It’s clichÈ but clothes do make the man. Following a few simple guidelines will help create that perfect look.

For any job in the business world, there is only one way for a man to dress to impress. He must wear a conservative suit. A conservative suit isn’t too trendy or showy. You don’t want a suit that looks faddish or silly. Image is everything. If these businessmen are going to trust you, they need to identify with your look. After all you and your appearance will represent their company. A conservative suit is generally a neutral color, grey, black, or brown. A solid suit is best because stripes are often too showy. You certainly don’t want to look like a gangster unless you are interviewing for a gangster movie.

Even though colored shirts are very popular now, you should wear a white long sleeved shirt with the conservative suit. Wearing a white shirt may not be trendy but it always helps you to present the most professional appearance. Never wear a short sleeved shirt with a suit no matter how hot the weather is. It just doesn’t create the image of a professional. Use plenty of deodorant.

The proper tie is also very important. A tie should complement the suit and not be made of a very busy fabric. You don’t have to wear a plain tie. Stripes or perfectly ok if they are not exaggerated or too bright. In fact wearing a monochromatic tie might be the wrong statement to make. Wearing a tie that is color coordinated with the suit gives just the right look.

Shoes are an essential part of the professional look. Many men neglect their shoes or don’t wear the right shoes. A shiny pair of laced leather shoes certainly complements any suit. Black shoes are perfect with a grey or black suit but would not go with a brown suit. Obviously, you would wear brown shoes with brown suit. Socks are also essential to the overall look. Yes, you must wear socks to match your shoes and suit. Never ever wear white socks with a suit. They are for jeans only.

Generally, men don’t wear jewelry. A wedding ring or class ring is perfectly acceptable. Wearing a necklace or bracelet is not acceptable for a conservative appearance.

Before going to a job interview, a man should have a hair cut and a manicure. Yes, a moderate hair cut and a nice nails are the finishing touch for that professional look.

Two items to leave at home are chewing gum and aftershave lotion. Neither is appropriate for a job interview. Either one will distract from your professional persona.

Add a nice leather briefcase and you are ready for the job interview. You are finally dressed for success.

If you need resume writing samples, references and help writing your resume, you will find plenty of options available. Samples can show you examples of how to write a great resume and provide a template for your own. There are many places to find great examples. Many word processing programs like Microsoft Word actually have resume templates already built in for you to use. To view them, go to File, New, Template and you will find various choices available. Exactly how to pull up the resume templates will depend on the type and version of word processing program that you have.

Another place to find great samples is in books. There are likely numerous books about resume writing which contain great examples at your local library and/or the bookstore of your choice. One leading title is 101 Best Resumes: Endorsed by the Professional Association of Resume Writers by Jay A. Block and Michael Betrus. This book actually contains 101 fantastic resumes which can be used as examples or templates when you’re writing your own. You might also be able to find a variety of examples on the Internet as well.

References are an important part of any resume package. Some people designate that references are available upon request. This may save you some time and trouble but it probably won’t gain favor with employers. The best bet is to include a separate page of references with your cover letter and resume. This makes it easy for employers to check your references if they choose and shows initiative. References should be people who you’ve worked for or with. You may also want to include references from schools you have attended. If you do not have any job or education related references, friends or relatives may be used as a last resort.

There are a few more helpful tips that can help you. Resume writing samples, references and cover letters are only half of what makes a good resume. Your resume should be printed on professional resume paper and should be in black ink with no fancy graphics or fonts. Keep things simple and professional. If your resume gets you an interview, send a brief thank you note afterwards to thank the interviewer for their time. This demonstrates professionalism and class, and can put you head and shoulders above the rest of the pack!
