Yes, all stereotypes apply in job interviews. A huge part of the job interview process is presenting the right image. Even if a man has a prefect resume and has all the skills necessary for the job, he won’t get the position without the perfect persona. It’s clichÈ but clothes do make the man. Following a few simple guidelines will help create that perfect look.

For any job in the business world, there is only one way for a man to dress to impress. He must wear a conservative suit. A conservative suit isn’t too trendy or showy. You don’t want a suit that looks faddish or silly. Image is everything. If these businessmen are going to trust you, they need to identify with your look. After all you and your appearance will represent their company. A conservative suit is generally a neutral color, grey, black, or brown. A solid suit is best because stripes are often too showy. You certainly don’t want to look like a gangster unless you are interviewing for a gangster movie.

Even though colored shirts are very popular now, you should wear a white long sleeved shirt with the conservative suit. Wearing a white shirt may not be trendy but it always helps you to present the most professional appearance. Never wear a short sleeved shirt with a suit no matter how hot the weather is. It just doesn’t create the image of a professional. Use plenty of deodorant.

The proper tie is also very important. A tie should complement the suit and not be made of a very busy fabric. You don’t have to wear a plain tie. Stripes or perfectly ok if they are not exaggerated or too bright. In fact wearing a monochromatic tie might be the wrong statement to make. Wearing a tie that is color coordinated with the suit gives just the right look.

Shoes are an essential part of the professional look. Many men neglect their shoes or don’t wear the right shoes. A shiny pair of laced leather shoes certainly complements any suit. Black shoes are perfect with a grey or black suit but would not go with a brown suit. Obviously, you would wear brown shoes with brown suit. Socks are also essential to the overall look. Yes, you must wear socks to match your shoes and suit. Never ever wear white socks with a suit. They are for jeans only.

Generally, men don’t wear jewelry. A wedding ring or class ring is perfectly acceptable. Wearing a necklace or bracelet is not acceptable for a conservative appearance.

Before going to a job interview, a man should have a hair cut and a manicure. Yes, a moderate hair cut and a nice nails are the finishing touch for that professional look.

Two items to leave at home are chewing gum and aftershave lotion. Neither is appropriate for a job interview. Either one will distract from your professional persona.

Add a nice leather briefcase and you are ready for the job interview. You are finally dressed for success.

If you are prepared, the job interview process doesn’t have to be stressful. With some research, practice, and confidence, the interview process can be just another exciting rite of passage.

To break the ice and to learn a little more about you personally, most job interviewers will start with some positive personal questions. The first question is generally - tell me about yourself. Don’t go on and on. Only give the relevant facts such as married or single, education, and former jobs. If you have children, this is certainly the time to mention them.

Next the interviewer will more than likely ask about your goals, where you see yourself in the next ten years, and describe your most important achievements. Be ready with the goals before the interview. Don’t make some goals up; be honest or you won’t be trusted. Don’t answer what you think the interviewer will want to hear. Give your goals and briefly explain why they are important to you. When asked where you see yourself in ten years, briefly explain how you see yourself in the company and how you will be contributing to the company’s success. Even if your most important achievements are in college, they are worthy of mention. If you have past business achievements, by all means talk about them, but not in a bragging way. No one likes someone who toots his own horn. Make sure that you give your co-workers at least partial credit for your achievements. You always want to look like a team player. That is very important in the business world.

Many interviewers like to ask about your strengths and weaknesses. These are important questions because the interviewer will learn quite a lot about you. Obviously, spend most of your time on your strengths. Without bragging, explain your strengths in a clear, concise manner. Don’t go on and on. Some examples of the strengths businesses are looking for is that you work well with others, that you always meet deadlines, that you are creative, and you understand the chain of command. Of course, there are many other strengths that you can mention. Make a list and choose the ones that you excel in so that you can explain them to your interviewer.

I wouldn’t spend a lot of time with my weaknesses. Certainly you don’t want to present yourself as a loser. Choose weaknesses that almost sound like strengths. For instance, you might say a weakness is that you often work too many hours when you have a project due and neglect other aspects of your life. Explain that you have to work hard to balance your life. If you aren’t married, you can explain that you try to achieve balance but the office always wins. Another weakness might be that you enjoy leading and sometimes come across as a little overbearing. Explain that you are working on this aspect and hope that if anyone seems to think you are pushy, they will tell you so that you can work on your social skills. If you have other specific weaknesses, explain them at your peril. Try to make the weaknesses seem almost like positives. I wouldn’t mention many weaknesses. The interviewer is simply trying to see if you will admit to problems. If you say that you have no weaknesses, the interviewer will know you are lying.

Interviewers have a variety of questions to ask you so that that they can choose the best candidate for a job. Your job is to convince them that you are the perfect choice and you can do this with the right attitude and working on your answers to obvious questions.

Elementary school teachers have to be everything to everybody. They act as surrogate mothers, nurses, counselors, babysitters, and, yes, teachers. In education elementary school teachers are considered the hardest working people in education. They rarely have minute for themselves. Therefore, principals are faced with many difficulties when they interview potential teachers. Especially when the teacher is a first year prospect, the principal has even more problems. He has to decide if this first year teacher is ready to teach and if she will fit with the school’s educational goals.

When a teacher is right out of college and ready to dive into teaching elementary school children, she may interview with many schools and school systems. The interview process is often frightening and unpleasant because the applicant has no idea what she will be asked. There is really no way to predict exactly what questions will be asked, but there are some general questions that most any principal will ask.

Practicing the interview process is a great idea. If you have a friend or relative who is a teacher, he/she will make a perfect helper. If no such person exists, ask any friend to help. Provide the helper with some mock questions and spend as much time as possible working on your interview skills.

An elementary school teacher must show that she is upbeat, has an outgoing personality, and knows her subject matter. Obviously, she must love children. Otherwise the teaching experience will be horrific for both the teacher and her students. The problem is how to ascertain if the applicant has these skills.

During the interview process, you should smile as much as possible. Don’t act like a dope or a crazy person, but a bright smile indicates a happy person. Even if you are scared, try not to show it or your application will go into the trash. Also, try to act confident and straightforward. Be a person who seems assertive but not too much. Strive for a balance.

As to questions, there are many standard questions. Be ready to answer why you decided to become an elementary student. Another good question is why you want to teach at this particular school. If you have done your homework, and yes, you should, you will know some information about the school. Showing that you are familiar with the school always helps to show you are a go getter. Principals love people who seem prepared. If you have any friend who teaches at the school or know a person with students at the school, mention them as you praise the school. Don’t overdo or you will look like a suck up. Rarely will this help you get a job.

Sometimes, particularly in the lower grades, you might be asked to read a story because this skill is very important in the early educational years. You might even bring a favorite children’s book just in case. Practice reading the book giving each character a voice. Ham it up when you read because the principal will be impressed and appreciate your personality.

Job interview questions for elementary school teachers vary from principal to principal. There is no way to predict all of the questions that will be asked. Before the interview, do your homework, practice mock interviews, and put your best foot forward. Good luck. Teaching is one of the most difficult jobs on the planet; proving yourself in the interview is only half he battle. Once you get the job, the real work begins.

One of the newest trends in the job market is to send video applications to prospective employers. This is an especially good idea if you are applying for a high profile job in another location than the one where you are. That way, the company will have a better idea of whether or not you are a good fit before calling you in to interview in person. There are some ways to create an effective job interview video, and some things to avoid. For example, there is a notorious application video that’s been circulating the Web that you might have seen or heard of which is a prime example of what not to do.

A man named Aleksey Vayner sent a video entitled ‘Impossible is Nothing’ to a variety of different companies including Wachovia, JP Morgan, Credit Suisse and a slew of other Wall Street giants. Enclosed with the video was an 11-page CV which outlined Vayner’s supposed extensive experience in the world of international finance. The real shocker, however, was not the 11 page CV but the application video. During the video, Vayner is shown lifting heavy weights, karate chopping blocks in half, and ballroom dancing with a beautiful woman. Rather than achieving its desired effect of landing the applicant a job, it made him a laughingstock all over the Internet.

The lesson here is less is more. When making an application video, don’t go overboard with fancy visual or audio effects. Don’t create elaborate skits or try to be an actor. What you want to do is communicate your qualifications and let your personality and professionalism shine through on camera. Wear a conservative, camera friendly ensemble. Experiment with different makeup applications to make yourself look as camera friendly as possible without looking like you’re wearing makeup. Even men can benefit from a dab of shine reducing powder before going in front of the camera. Choose a setting that is pleasant and attractive but doesn’t distract from your message. A clean, organized, conservatively decorated office often makes an ideal backdrop.

When you make your job interview video, introduce yourself then go on to outline why you want the job you are applying for and why you feel you are an ideal candidate. It may take some practice before you are satisfied with the results. Many people find that talking to a camera feels unnatural, but gets easier with practice. If you are able to make a professional and engaging application video, it tells the company something about you. It tells them that you are confident, creative, personable and multitalented. And that certainly can’t hurt when applying for the job of your dreams!

No matter what type of job you are interviewing for, there are some job interview tips that can help you get the job you want. From fast food to Wall Street, the same rules apply. With a little research, practice, and the correct appearance, you can easily impress your future employer.

Even if you are applying for your first job at a fast food restaurant, you should research the business. Obviously, if you are applying for a high level job, you need even more research. Going into a job interview cold and without a clue as to the business mission goals and basic business plan won’t help you impress your interviewer. With the advent of the Internet, researching any business is simple. Spend a few hours studying the businesses and you will be very prepared. If you are applying for your first job at a fast food restaurant and you already know the mission statement, the menu, and other basics of the business, you will certainly go to the head of the list of applicants. Even if you have a newly minted college degree and are applying for a high level job, you want to appear knowledgeable and confident. Proper research will always put you ahead of the game.

After you have done the research, you are ready to practice the interview process. If you are very young and applying for your first job, ask a parent or a sibling to work with you. Some of the jobs you will be asked are obvious. The interviewer will always ask you why you want to work in this particular business. If you answer to buy my first car, you will seem disinterested in the real purpose of the job. A better answer would be that you enjoy working with people and this is your favorite fast food restaurant. Then you might add that you are saving your money to buy your first car. The interviewer may ask you about your goals and dreams for your future. Obviously, this job is a stepping stone job. Tell the truth about your future and explain that you think this fast food job will enable you to learn skills you will need in your future jobs. Always be honest during the interview process. If you lie, you will seem untrustworthy and won’t get hired. Be assertive, confident, and outgoing and you have a good chance at the job.

If you are applying for an upper echelon job, some of the same rules apply. You want to practice interviewing with someone so that you will be ready for the real interview. You will be inevitably asked about your future goals and the reasons you want the job. You will also ask what you can bring to the business. Be ready for this question and present some ideas that you have for the job. Never criticize the business or imply that you would want to make huge changes. Be confident but not cocky. If you are not sure of an answer, say so. Being honest is much better than being caught looking foolish.

Dressing for success is very necessary. For a low level job, you can dress in business casual. For teens looking for that first job, you should wear nice slacks and a conservative shirt. Never wear jeans or clothes that are too trendy or flashy. You want to look mature enough for the job. Certainly you would never want to dress in shorts or skimpy clothes. You should even dress up when you go to ask for an application. For upper level jobs, you should wear very conservative business clothes. A suit is always appropriate for men and a dress or business suit for women is a given. The colors should be subdued and never faddish or overly colorful. Subdued is always a good luck because it gives you a trustworthy look, which is exactly what you want. Be sure to wear polished dress shoes to complement your overall look. Don’t wear too much jewelry, perfume or aftershave lotions, and never ever chew gum.

No matter the job, the interview process is stressful but with these job interview tips, you are already ahead of the game.

No matter what career field you’re in, you can almost always count on being asked certain questions during the interview process. These questions are quite universal in nature and work well for every type of job. By knowing the most commonly asked questions and having your answers prepared ahead of time, you will be able to interview better. Potential employers will see you as prepared and confident, which are two traits most all of them want to see in an applicant. Whether you’re interviewing for a job at an office, restaurant, construction site, retail store, online company, or anywhere else for that matter, you can increase your chances of being hired by studying the following questions ahead of time:

1. Why do you want to work here?

This question may sound like an opportunity to sweet-talk the interviewer, and while compliments about the company are nice, keep them brief and instead focus on why you feel the job is an ideal fit for you. Talk on how you think the job fits into your current and future career goals.

2. What are your qualifications for this job?

When you answer this question, don’t just rattle off a list of your job history. Instead, give examples of specific responsibilities, duties and situations you’ve had in the past which are related to the job you are applying for.

3. What is your greatest strength? Your greatest weakness?

While this answer is of course going to be different for everyone, there are certain answers that can make you look good to an interviewer. Your strength may be something such as you’re a hard worker or you’re a team player. When it comes to your weakness, it’s time to be a little creative. The tendency to be a workaholic and perfectionist can be quite attractive weaknesses to mention. By choosing weaknesses that are not necessarily weaknesses at all, you can present yourself in a very favorable light. Just don’t be dishonest!

4. Where do you see yourself in five years?

This is a tough question to answer for some people, which is why preparation is so important. You may not know where you want to be in five years. A good answer to give if you don’t have something specific in mind is to tell the interviewer that you see yourself making the most of your skills and abilities in a job you enjoy.

5. Are you a team player or do you like to work alone?

The right answer to this job interview question should relate to the position you are applying for. For example, if you are applying for a job where you’ll be working in a team environment, emphasize your skills as a team player. If you’re applying for job where you’ll be working alone, emphasize your ability to work well by yourself without a lot of interaction. You should let the employer know that you are well equipped to work either way, if in fact you are.

Thank you notes seem to be a dying tradition. Most people think a simple thank you is sufficient for graduation gifts to wedding gifts. Many people think that writing a personal note is too tedious and therefore not necessary. No matter what your opinion about thank you notes is you might want to re-rationalize that viewpoint when it comes to a job interview thank you letter.

The job interview process is stressful for everyone including the interviewer. He has had to spend countless hours reading resumes and coming up with questions to ask the people he has to interview. Then he has to meet a complete stranger, ask him a variety of questions, and come up with an analysis of each candidate. He may interview for hours and hours and after a while, they may all seem to look alike.

How to stand out? What can you do to be memorable? Many people think doing a telephone call after the interview is the way to go. Trust me. Most businessmen would not be happy to receive a phone call from each person he interviewed. The phone calls seem like pressure so you get no brownie points.

The job interview thank you letter is a very polite way to make you stand out from the crowd. The thank you letter should be brief and to the point. You do not want to waste anyone’s time. A simple thank you for his time is a great way to begin. Then compliment the business and make a brief statement about how much you look forward to being a part of the corporation.

The job interview thank you letter should be no longer than a half page. If you write too long a letter, you will lose your reader’s interest. Don’t be overly complimentary or flowery or you will be labeled a fake who is just trying to beg for the job.

The letter should be type and single spaced with double spacing between paragraphs. If your handwriting is especially fine, you can send a handwritten job interview thank you letter. If your handwriting is awful, by all means go with the computer generated letter.

Make sure that the thank you letter is grammatically perfect and all words are spelled correctly. Be sure than you get all names right or you will be put on the short list of not a chance. The thank you letter is simply a vehicle to show your appreciation for the interview.

Writing a job interview thank you letter is a personal choice. If you feel that writing a letter is a great idea, by all means write a literate, appreciative thank you letter.

Yes, you need to be prepared to ask questions of your job interviewer. The questions should be incisive and show that you have an understanding of the company. Interviewers learn a good deal of information from the questions you ask so plan some out ahead of time before the interview. Practice your answers so that you are completely confident. Don’t act practiced. Wait at least a minute before you ask your first question and this first question should not be about your salary.

One of the first questions to ask is about their training program for new hires. Obviously, you wouldn’t want to be given a cubicle or room and then thrown to the wolves. A good employer training program is essential to learning a new job. Perhaps the company has a mentor program or a few weeks of orientation. Another good question is to ask is who will be your superiors and who you will report directly to.

All businesses have job evaluations which are often the basis for promotions and raises. You might what to ask the interviewing panel about this evaluation and how they are scored. Find out how important they are and whether or not they are used for firing,

After you have shown them that you understand the basics of the company, ask them about the company’s plans for growth and how you will fit into these plans. You can also ask what particular characteristics they consider most important for the position. Then you can highlight your characteristics that will fit in with this job picture.

Since the work will be your most challenging and satisfactory part of your job, ask exactly what types of projects you would be working on for the company. Obviously, if these jobs don’t fit your particular skill levels, this might not be the best position for you.

Obviously, you won’t want to stay in this entry level position for the rest of your life so you should ask about your chances for advancement. You can show your initiative by asking how you can help the company to fulfill its goals.

At the close of the meeting, you can ask about what comes next. You will want to know how many candidates there are for the job and when you might be motivated. After the initial interview is over, there will probably be a visit to the company for another interview. Ask about this process and ask if someone will call you about the second interview. Try to get an idea of how long the hiring process will last. Don’t be pushy but try to get a clear idea of how long you have to wait.

When you are starting the interview process, be ready to ask some questions. Be careful not to look too pushy. Make sure that your questions come from your interest in the job rather than making this an inquisition. Be confident and show it.

Interviewing is like a blind date; you have no idea what is going to happen or what to wear. With a few very simple rules, I can help you with the correct dress for your next job interview. You are on your own with the blind date. Good luck with that! Women even more than men need to present the professional image to be taken seriously.

Even with the right education, the best job skills, and a great personality, you will fail to get the job you want unless you present the image of a professional. Even if you are looking for an entry level job, you should dress for success. A few years ago, I witnessed first hand what happens when you don’t dress your best. I was in a book store when I saw a young woman come into the store to ask for a job application. She was dressed for a day at the beach. She was wearing very shorts that were too tight and too short and a very casual top. Her finishing touch was her flip flops. Although she was given an application, the manager never even considered her for the job. When she handed the manager the application, it was thrown in the trash as soon as she was out of the store. She lost the job as soon as she entered the store. Therefore, it is important to dress correctly even when you ask for an application.

No matter what job you are applying for, the rules are pretty much the same. Ladies should always dress conservatively. Although most woman no longer wear dresses, a very conservative suit or even pants suit are suitable for most jobs. Of course, a simple dress is always appropriate. Wearing neutral colors is always a good idea. Bright colors or busy patterns in clothing are also not a good idea. You want to present a professional persona. Your clothes are simply an accessory to your personality, education, and job skills.

Shoes are a very important part of your appearance. Your shoes should be clean and neat. Heels are great but should be of moderate height. Add a coordinating purse or briefcase and you are good to go.

A few more simple rules and you are on your way to the perfect look. You can wear some very simple jewelry. Never wear large earrings or earrings that dangle or move. A very simple bracelet is ok but should not be gaudy or too bright. Even though many women no longer wear hose, you should wear a very neutral pair of hose for the interviews. I know they are a pain but the proper hose completes the professional look.

The proper hairstyle is also important. No particular hairstyle is necessary but your hair should be neat and not showy. The hairstyle should complement your overall look. Make-up should be very natural looking without that made-up look. Although many women wear perfume, it’s not a good idea for a job interview because the smell might overpower you and make others uncomfortable, especially if they have allergies.

It goes without saying that you should never ever chew gum at a job interview. In this day and time, when movie stars are constantly shown on camera looking like cows chewing, many people think nothing of chewing gum in public. Regardless of what you think of chewing gum, it is never acceptable for a job interview.

Presenting the perfect appearance is essential for a job interview. Adhering to a few simple rules, you will be ready to put your best foot forward and get that great job.

One of the greatest fallacies in the world is that anyone can teach. That is wrong on so many levels. With thirty-six years of teaching behind me, I think I have seen everything from teachers who are appalled at how hard teaching can be to teachers who live their lives for their students. They work harder than anyone so that their students can excel. Most principals and department heads use the interview process to weed out the rejects. If you are that dedicated teacher, I am going to give you some interview tips for a teaching job so that you will get the job you want because you deserve the help.

If you are fresh out of college with a Master’s Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree, you are suddenly faced with the interview process. It’s scary and can be devastating. With some proper preparation, the process can become easier. Even with a shortage of teachers, you still must stand out from the crowd.

After the initial interview is set up, you should practice your interviewing as much as possible. Get a partner and role play. Make up a set of questions that you think the interview panel will ask you. With a few tips, you should have some idea of what the panel will ask. One very general question is always why you want to teach at our school. If you have done your research, you know the strengths and weaknesses of the school. Explain why you would be honored to work at the school becauseÖIf there is a weakness, say that you hope very much to help withÖ They will be impressed with your initiative.

More than likely there will be a department head in your subject matter if you are interviewing for a high school job. She will ask you your areas of expertise. If you are strong in Algebra or American Literature or World History, explain why you love the subject. Depending on the state if there is a licensing test, your having already passed it is always a big plus. If you have not passed the test, explain when you are taking it again. If you are applying for an English job, you might be asked what your favorite book is. Be ready to explain why the book is so great.

Be sure to dress professionally. Wear a suit or nice dress to the interview. Nice shoes, few accessories, and a moderate hair style are also good touches. If you are really young, try to dress older without looking like you are in your mother’s clothes.

One question principals of high schools always ask is if you would be interested in sponsoring an extra-curricular activity. Of course you are. If you say no, you are instantly not a team player and you probably won’t get the job. How do you think principals get teachers to do these jobs? They pick on the new hires. A few years of a club or cheerleaders and you can get out of the job by going back to school, getting married, or having a baby. Then the next new hire is open game.

Some of the most important interview tips for a teaching job are to present yourself as conservative, dedicated, and bright. You want to show that you love students and can’t wait to start teaching. Be alert and show your personality without being overly talkative. If you are shy, try to be extroverted for the interview. Good luck. We need good teachers.
