Students often feel overwhelmed when it comes to writing a resume. Your first resume is an important document that can help you land your first ‘real’ job. You might have worked places where you had to fill out a simple job application, or perhaps you’ve never worked anywhere. Either way, writing a student resume doesn’t have to be a daunting prospect. With a little guidance, you can write the perfect resume which can help you get the job you want. First, let’s talk about how to make your resume look professional.

Your resume should be printed in black ink on high quality resume paper. Resume paper is heavier than regular printer paper. It is often textured and in a muted color like ivory or gray. Don’t use graphics or fancy fonts on your resume. Simple, common fonts like Times New Roman, Verdana, Tahoma and Courier are easy to read and look professional. Margins should be one inch all around the page, and there should be proper spacing in between entries.

At the top of the page is your contact information. You can make your name bigger than the address, email, fax and phone number. A few spaces down, you will want to put your objective. Your objective is a strong statement that details your intention and why you feel you are the right person for the job. Under the objective you will list educational details. List where you went to school or where you are going to school, the dates you attended, your main areas of study, your GPA and other pertinent information.

If you’ve worked at other jobs, you will list them next. If not, expand on your education further. Detail the classes you feel relate to the job you want. Talk about any awards or recognition you’ve achieved. List your special skills like computer experience or interpersonal skills that may relate to the job you’re applying for. It’s harder to get a job with zero work experience but it is certainly not impossible.

Writing a student resume is easier if you’ve got a little help. Ask a parent or teacher for assistance. Your school guidance counselor might also be a great place to turn. There are also some great books about writing student resumes that can offer a lot of help. Check out Creating Your High School Resume: A Step-by-Step Guide to Preparing an Effective Resume For Jobs, College and Training Programs by Kathryn Kraemer Troutman.

When you apply for graduate school, there is some important paperwork you will need to include. You will not only need to write an essay, but also a resume for graduate school. You might also hear this resume referred to as a curriculum vitae or CV. A CV is a bit different from a traditional resume because it is academically focused. You should ideally have a CV throughout your college career that you update as you gain more academic and professional experience.

The first thing you’ll want to list on your CV is your contact information. Your name goes at the top, in larger font than the rest of the text on the page. Under your name you will list your contact information which includes your address, telephone number and email address. Next, you will want to detail your education. This is a very important part of the document. Include where you attended school, what your major was, the dates you attended school and the date you received your degree, and your grade point average. If you are still in school, include your estimated date of degree completion.

Next, you will want to detail any awards or special recognition you’ve received. If the only award you’ve received are your graduation honors, include them as part of the first section which details your education. If you’ve had any experience as a teacher’s assistant or have provided any instruction to other students, it should be listed next. Then, you’ll want to detail any research projects you’ve been a part of.

Your CV should also include your technical and professional experience and any skills you possess. A CV can span several pages and is much longer than a traditional resume. You might also want to include things like reports or articles you’ve had published, professional organization affiliations and references from colleagues, peers or mentors. Many grad students seek professional help when writing their CV, as it is a very important document that is very detailed.

Writing a resume for graduate school can be a daunting process at first. With professional help or even the guidance of a teacher or counselor, you can write the ideal CV for yourself. As the years pass, you will find yourself updating and adding to your CV. This document will be not only what helps you get into graduate school but also what helps you land the job you want following graduation.

Writing samples can serve as templates when it comes to writing for yourself. A writing sample resume can show you how to put together a professional resume that will get attention. There are plenty of websites and books where you can see real resumes that can help you decide how you want your own resume to look. You shouldn’t feel like you’re plagiarizing or copying when you look at samples. You are simply borrowing the structure and getting ideas. You cannot plagiarize a resume because your skills, your experience, your education and your words will be your own, even if you use a certain format you saw on an example.

There are different types of resumes. The first and most popular type is the chronological resume. With a chronological resume, you list your education and experience in order from past to present. Many people go from the present to the past so your most recent job is listed first. This is convenient for employers because your last job is going to be the most important. Then there’s the functional resume. This resume focuses less on education and work history and more on achievements and abilities.

The third type of resume is a combined resume which blends the best characteristics of the chronological and functional resume into one. You will list your education and work history in chronological order, but you will also include sections for your skills, abilities and any awards or recognition you’ve received. The combined resume tells an employer everything they need to know to decide whether or not to call you in for an interview. The usual format is your job objective, followed by education, followed by work history. Then, you can include a section where your skills, abilities, awards and other achievements are highlighted.

In addition to a writing sample resume, you may also want to find some cover letter examples. The cover letter comes before the resume and helps summarize your intention and why you are a good candidate for the job. A cover letter should be in professional business letter format and should be approximately one page in length. Many job applicants also include a page of professional and/or personal references with their cover letter and resume.

If you need resume writing samples, references and help writing your resume, you will find plenty of options available. Samples can show you examples of how to write a great resume and provide a template for your own. There are many places to find great examples. Many word processing programs like Microsoft Word actually have resume templates already built in for you to use. To view them, go to File, New, Template and you will find various choices available. Exactly how to pull up the resume templates will depend on the type and version of word processing program that you have.

Another place to find great samples is in books. There are likely numerous books about resume writing which contain great examples at your local library and/or the bookstore of your choice. One leading title is 101 Best Resumes: Endorsed by the Professional Association of Resume Writers by Jay A. Block and Michael Betrus. This book actually contains 101 fantastic resumes which can be used as examples or templates when you’re writing your own. You might also be able to find a variety of examples on the Internet as well.

References are an important part of any resume package. Some people designate that references are available upon request. This may save you some time and trouble but it probably won’t gain favor with employers. The best bet is to include a separate page of references with your cover letter and resume. This makes it easy for employers to check your references if they choose and shows initiative. References should be people who you’ve worked for or with. You may also want to include references from schools you have attended. If you do not have any job or education related references, friends or relatives may be used as a last resort.

There are a few more helpful tips that can help you. Resume writing samples, references and cover letters are only half of what makes a good resume. Your resume should be printed on professional resume paper and should be in black ink with no fancy graphics or fonts. Keep things simple and professional. If your resume gets you an interview, send a brief thank you note afterwards to thank the interviewer for their time. This demonstrates professionalism and class, and can put you head and shoulders above the rest of the pack!

If you need help writing resume, there is plenty of it out there for you. You will find not only professional resume writers, but also career coaches, free web sites, and plenty of books which can help you write the perfect resume. If you need help writing your cover letter, you can find that also. It’s better to ask for help when you need it than present a less than professional resume to a potential employer. The first impression an employer has of you is your resume, so you want to make sure it is the best it can be.

There are a few tips that you will learn which can help you with any imaginable type of resume and/or cover letter. The first is to make sure your resume and cover letter looks professional. The type of paper you use is important. Choose a heavy, lightly textured resume paper in ivory, oyster or another light muted color. When printing your resume, use black ink. Your name should go on top and be larger than the rest of the text on the page. Under your name should be your contact information like address, telephone number and email address.

Margins should be one inch on all sides of the paper. Use an easy to read font like Verdana, Courier or Times New Roman. The last thing you want is an employer straining to read your resume or cover letter. When writing your cover letter, use business letter format. Your address goes on the upper left, then the recipient address, then the date, then the letter itself. Look at some examples of good cover letters before writing yours. Your resume should feature your education, experience and any special skills you have which relate to the job you are applying for, preferably in chronological order.

If you simply don’t feel comfortable writing your own resume, help writing resume can come in the form of a friend, relative, teacher, counselor or professional resume writer. Professional resume writers are going to charge you a fee to write your resume but using one is often the best way to obtain the most impressive and professional resume possible. Make sure the writer you choose is a member of the Professional Association of Resume Writers, a notable and trustworthy organization.

When it comes to resume writing and elementary teacher jobs, there are some things you should know. Your resume can make the difference between getting a job and not getting it, so you need to make sure it is the best it can possibly be. A resume appropriate for someone entering a teaching field is called a CV, or curriculum vitae. If you’ve never held a teaching job before and are applying for one, your CV is the single most important asset you can have.

The first part of your CV is of course, your contact information. Include your name, physical address, email address, telephone number and fax number. Next, you will want to go into detail about your education. You will want to list the schools you attended, what years you attended them, your major, your GPA, your date of graduation and any graduation honors you received. After you’ve listed your education, the next part of your CV is any awards or honors you’ve achieved. If you haven’t received any, skip to the next parts.

Other parts of your CV include your teaching experience as an intern or assistant. You should also go into detail about any volunteer work you’ve done. Another part of a CV is listing any associations, organizations or clubs you are a part of. If you’ve had work published in any journals, you will want to list this as well. Yet another important aspect of a curriculum vitae are references. You need to include references who can vouch for your education and experience and recommend you as a teacher who has the ability to teach an elementary school class.

Resume writing and elementary teacher jobs go hand in hand. You are simply not going to get a teaching job without a good resume or CV. This is why you need to make sure your CV is the best it can be. Proofread your CV several times and make sure it is grammatically correct and contains no spelling or formatting errors. Have colleagues, mentors, teachers or friends read it as well and offer constructive criticism. Your resume should be absolutely perfect before it reaches the hands of the person who might hire you. It is a document which helps administrators decide which candidates should be considered for the job and which should be passed over.

Your resume is the first thing a potential employer sees from you. After reading your resume, a potential employer may decide to call you for an interview if he or she feels you are a good candidate for the position you are applying for. But what if you’ve never written a resume before and need one to apply for a job? In that case, looking at various resume writing examples can help you. Seeing examples of good and bad resumes can go a long way towards helping you write the ideal resume for your needs.

There are three main types of resumes. The chronological resume lists your educational and career related achievements by date, from past to present. Most employers like this style because it is easy to read and details your education and experience in a logical fashion. Then there’s what’s known as a functional resume. This type of resume is based on your achievements and skills and does not give much focus to places or dates. The last type of resume is a combination resume, which is probably your best bet.

A combination resume combines the features of a chronological and functional resume into one. For example, a combination resume will list when and where you worked, but it will also detail your specific tasks and special achievements at each job. It may also contain a special section where you list your particular skills, aptitudes, awards or other achievements. If you want to see samples of the three main types of resumes, the Internet is a good place to look. While there are certainly plenty of websites that will try to sell you their resume writing services, there are also plenty of educational websites out there as well where you can learn great free tips for writing your resume.

Performing a search engine query for resume writing examples can lead you to many free samples posted on the web. You can see what makes a good resume, and what makes a bad one. There are also a great deal of books written about resumes. One of the very best for this purpose is The Encyclopedia of Job Winning Resumes by Myra Fournier and Jeffrey Spin. Another great book which has been endorsed by the Professional Association of Resume Writers is 101 Best Resumes by Jay A. Block and Michael Betrus.

If you need tips for cover letter writing, job resume help and more, you’re not alone. Many people feel overwhelmed by the prospect of writing a cover letter and resume. There are various reasons why you may not feel confident. Writing may not be your strongest suit. Or perhaps you just don’t feel comfortable tooting your own horn, so to speak. Advertising yourself in a positive yet honest way is an important part of writing cover letters and resumes.

Your cover letter should be in business letter format. The first paragraph should be a brief introduction which states the position you are applying for, why you want the job, and why you think you should have it. In the next two paragraphs or so, talk more about the skills and qualities that you feel make you a good candidate. In the final paragraph, write a short summary which restates why you feel you are the right person for the job. Include a call to action which is a statement which persuades and invites further action. You might say something like, ‘I look forward to speaking with you.’

When writing your resume, the best way to go is with a combined resume which contains both chronological and functional information. First comes your name and contact information at the top of the page. Next, you may want to include a job objective paragraph. After that, you want to list your education and work experience from present to past. After that, you can list your professional affiliations, any recognition you’ve received and of course, your skills. Even if you’ve mentioned your skills in your cover letter, mention them once more.

Finally, you’ll want to include a page of references. Including references shows confidence and makes things easier for the employer. They don’t have to ask you for references because you’ve already included them. Some employers may actually check references before deciding to interview an applicant, although most do this after the interview. Your cover letter, resume and references page should be printed in black ink on top quality resume paper.

More cover letter writing job resume tips can be found in books and online. Because so many people do need help in this area, you will find no shortage of assistance. While there are professional resume writers you can hire to create your resume for you, most people are able to write their own resume with a little guidance from the right book or site.

Once upon a time, resumes had to be typed on manual and/or electric typewriters. Once computers became mainstream, word processing programs became the method of choice for creating resumes and other documents. Today, resumes are done strictly by computer and for good reason. Word processing programs make it so easy to write, edit and print your resume. There are also resume writing home software titles that can give you even more help when it comes to designing and writing your resume.

You might not even need to buy software. If you have Microsoft Word or a comparable word processing program, then you have resume templates. Under the File, New menu you will find an area of templates for different things, including resumes. These resume templates come in various styles. Using these templates, you can replace the sample information with your own information and be guaranteed a perfectly formatted resume that’s ready to save and print. Of course, if the templates on your word processing program are not sufficient for your needs, you may want to buy a software program.

The best place to look for resume writing software is online. WinWay is a good program you can use to create a professional resume. This software contains templates for every imaginable career field. You get thousands of phrases you can use to customize your resume to fit your needs. There are countless themes, styles and templates included with this software which can provide you with a customized resume that looks great and puts you in the best light possible. This software is a good choice for anyone who wants a very detailed program to help them produce their resume.

Another resume writing home software title you might want to consider is Resume Maker. It is quite similar to WinWay because it features lots of templates, thousands of helpful phrases which you can include and an easy to use interface. If you just don’t feel comfortable using resume writing software, you can hire a professional resume writer to help you. Or, you can simply read some books about how to write a good resume and craft your own. No matter how you choose to write your resume, make sure it is as good as it can be. With a good resume, you might just get the job you’ve always dreamed of having!
