Artificial Intelligence Software
Artificial Intelligence, know as AI, is a mix of engineering and technology in an effort to make machines that are able to process information and then use that information. The Artificial Intelligence Foundation created A.L.I.C.E., Artificial Linguistic Internet Computer. It is an intelligence chat robot. The software used to create A.L.I.C.E is available at not cost through the Free Software Foundation.
On their website, you can chat with A.L.I.C.E. She can interact with you like a real person does. She uses Artificial Intelligence Markup Language to form responses to your questions and comments. A.L.I.C.E was created in 1995. She continues to be updated and challenged as new technology is developed.
While many of us are fascinated with A.L.I.C.E, she is the center of much controversy regarding AI. Many believe we are playing with fire here. They worry about scenes in movies where the robots take over the people. Can that happen? We can’t predict what a machine will do for sure once it is acting in a learning mode. Others worry that such machines will be created to do damage rather than to do good. The military has a huge interest in AI. The plan would be to send machines into dangerous combat zones rather than real people. The issue has become a hot topic regarding ethics, technology, and politics. The biggest question is if we develop a machine with a brain that functions similar to a human, will that machine be self aware? Will it be a living thing? If so, then it raises concerns about putting AI machines in the line of danger.
Technology has brought AI along way. Doing so has allowed AI to be used in many forms to make our lives easier. However, as AI progresses the controversy regarding how far is too far to go is being debated. Time will tell where this project goes. In the mean time, both sides of the issue with continue to pursue their viewpoint.
