Soup

Soup is said to be as old as the concept of cooking. The term soup comes from the Latin word soak. Soup is basically adding various types of ingredients together in a pot. The creation is an easy to make and filling meal. Soup is ideal for those on the go, those who enjoy a warm meal, and for the poor who have very little money to purchase food. Soup is a universal food, enjoyed by people all over the world in various forms.

Homemade soup is still available in many homes and restaurants. Technology has given lead to additional ways to make soup. The most popular is condensed soup. This type of soup comes in a can. You pour it in a pot, add either milk or water, and you have delicious soup in minutes. There is also dehydrated soup and microwavable soup. Recently I saw an add on television for soup at hand. It is designed for those on the go. You sip the soup in a cup like container that easily fits into your vehicles drink holder.

Condensed soup is the most popular in the United States. Campbell’s brand condensed soup emerged onto the market in 1897. It was invented by a chemist who approached the idea of selling the product without water to reduce costs related to packaging and shipping. Today Campbell’s soup ranks third in foods sold. First is meat and poultry. Second is pasta. The company has continued to grow and change with the times. It offers a wide variety of soups to appeal to the tastes of many cultures. The product is very well known in other countries including China, Australia, and Argentina.

There are many types of soups. Some are basically a broth. Others contain vegetables. Many contain meat. The majority of soups are simply a combination of our favorite ingredients. Chicken noodle and tomato soup are the two most popular.

Soup has been a staple of diets throughout the world for hundreds of years. Whether you make your own soup, purchase it already made, or go for the convenience of condensed, soup is a healthy and filling meal that many of us continue to enjoy.
