Foster Care

Foster care is one of those things that have both positive and negative qualities. On the one hand, people who have a bad home environment and have a dysfunctional family could very well be taken away from their family by the state and taken into foster care. This could have both good and bad qualities because what if the people they end up living with are no better than their original family? On the other hand, there are plenty of wonderful and caring foster families out there. Foster care could land them an official adoption.

Some of the children who go through the foster care program have a lot of problems, including problems related to lack of trust or fear of abandonment. A lot of children who are in the foster care program are there because their families simply decided they didn’t want them. How do they know if every care giver won’t also do that to them? And the foster care system can be problematic and worsen the problem because even though families mean well, sometimes the arrangement is temporary. Foster care can be a challenge to everyone involved.

But there are happy ending stories when it comes to foster care. Sometimes a child gets lucky. They manage to touch the hearts of a caring family and they end up adopting them. But with foster care that is not necessarily rare but there are rules, especially since the child may be old enough to remember his or her biological family. The law may state that the biological family can still claim them.

For example, if a child is placed in foster care because the parents have drug problems, but then the parents go to rehab and get help, they could very well get their child back. But, that is not necessarily something that will happen, especially since the parents will need to prove that they are capable of being good parents.

Foster care is a good system, but also a challenging one. It can cause psychological damage to a child that may never get repaired. Or, it could also be a blessing and have a happy ending. If you are thinking of getting involved with the foster care program and become a foster family, that is a good option for people who want to help make a difference.
