They thoroughly look at all tests to provide verification that no substances were used by the bodybuilder. They use the same types of testing methods as the Olympics.</p>

<p>To compete in this division, most competitions require the individual to be free of substances for a minimum of 5 years. In addition to the above testing, each competitor must have 2 letters of reference stating they have not used any type of enhancement drugs during the past 5 years. If a competitor is found to have used drug enhancements, they are banned from all competitions for the next 2 years.</p>
<p>Judging in natural bodybuilding competitions is made up of several areas. Muscle balance, called symmetry is judged. Deltoids are compared to the size of calves. Barrel width of the chest is compared to the width of the thighs. The size of the hips is compared to the sweep of the back. The judge is looking at the overall effect of all the parts together rather than focusing on the size of particular areas.
