During the hotter months of the year it can be difficult to choose something healthy to eat, especially when you are on the go or it is simply too hot to cook. Eating various types of berries is a great way to get the vitamins and minerals you need without all the added sugar of other types of snacks. They are also very easy to get and they don’t cost very much. You can take berries with you on a picnic or while traveling in the car.

Black Berries

Black berries grow in locations throughout the United States and can easily be picked in either June or July. They also grow very well in areas of British Columbia and Brazil, the United Kingdom, and Mexico. More than 100 varieties of black berries have been identified. They have to be ripe before you pick them as they will not ripen off the vine. Tons of black berries in Brazil are wasted each year as their culture believes that if you don’t pick them by the middle of September then they belong to the devil.

Goji Berries

Goji berries are a very popular health food that is used to detox the body from impurities. They are also believed to help people lose weight easily and to live a healthy life. While there is no proven evidence, many individuals who have consumed goji berries report that they were able to fight off cancer and they no longer suffer from arthritis. Goji berries are also said to improve a person’s mood and prevent mood swings from taking place. Eating a handle each morning is said to help ensure you will have a very happy day.

Juniper Berries

Juniper berries come from the female seed cones of various junipers. The name is misleading though as they aren’t really berries. The cone of the juniper features fleshy scales that often resemble berries. Most juniper berries are blue in color but some of them are orange or red. They grow in many areas of the Northern hemisphere on large evergreen trees. The berries are ripe in the fall.

Wild Berries

Wild berries grow in locations all over the world. The majority of them are edible and delicious but there are some you should never eat. This can be difficult to decide though as some of them look very similar to berries you can eat. You will often find strawberries, blue berries, black berries, and raspberries in the wild. They will likely be smaller than those you purchase at the market but very delicious just the same.
