When Microsoft released a game called Halo: Combat Evolved for their Xbox console in 2001, no one could have predicted the strong impact that it would have on our culture. With several games made as part of the series now as well as novels, comics, and other associated merchandise, the Halo series is one of the biggest successes for the Xbox console. The sequel to Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 was released on the Xbox in 2004 to much excitement from fans of the original game. It became a hugely successful game because it was purchased by so many new and old fans of the Halo name. Everyone who’s taken any instruction in history while in high school knows the details of the Cuban missile crisis, when the United States and the USSR came to a disagreement over the USSR attempting to build a missile base on the island of Cuba. Microsoft’s Halo series is one that has become a favorite with many gamers, combining the action of a first person shooter with a dynamic story about alien invasion. The popularity of the series has become such that it’s spilled into other media, from books to CDs, and at one point, studios were planning to release a movie based on the Halo series. Spore is a PC game which is currently under development, not yet fully completed, and which is being developed by Maxis and which was designed by Will Wright.
