School Calendars

Most parents find that during the school year their own calendar has to be adjusted to accommodate each child’s school calendar. It is nice to have a printed copy on your refrigerator for quick reference. This way you know when children get out early, when Spring Break and Christmas vacation are, and when you can schedule things like family vacations, dentist appointments, and regular checkups.

School calendars run different than a regular calendar year. Most of them start with August or September depending on when school starts for them. It will then run through May or June depending on when school ends. Some school calendars also have pages for the summer months with fun ideas for educational summer projects the entire family can participate in.

If you have more than one child at different schools, then the school calendars are essential. It can take a master planner to juggle all the different activities and get each child where they need to be. It can be chaotic to try to find daycare at the last minute when you realize that there is no school tomorrow or try to explain to the teacher that you simply forgot about the meeting with her. Having a school calendar reduces the chances of these situations happening.

Sometimes children make calendars at school for Christmas gifts and have the school activities already on the right pages. This can be a fun craft was well as a great way to help parents stay organized. You can make them even more fun by purchasing different stickers for the different events such as sports, vacations, tests, and more.

If you help in your child’s classroom or you are part of the Parent Teacher Organization you might suggest they use calendars for their particular events. This can be a great way to let parents know what is going on in the classroom. Many parents will talk to their children about it so they know what to expect that week in the classroom.

Having a school calendar of parent teacher meetings, events, and fundraisers can definitely increase awareness of upcoming events. It can serve as an invitation for new parents to join the meetings. It also serves as an update for parents who can’t make it to the meetings but are interested in what is taking place just the same.
