Replica Swords

It can be difficult to tell the difference between an original sword and a replica to the untrained eye. Purchasing a replica sword can be a great way to get a quality piece of art to display at a very low cost. However, you don’t want to get scammed into thinking you are buying a real sword when it is actually a replica sword.

There are some features you can look for even if you aren’t a sword expert to keep this from happening to you. Some of them are easier to notice than others. Any sword that features a serial number on it is definitely a replica that has been made by a machine.

Almost all original swords have blades that are made from heavy steel. You will find the majority of replica swords feature blades that are designed from aluminum. You do have to be careful though because some of the high dollar replica swords are made from steel as well. If someone tries to sell you a Ninja sword claiming it is an original from Japanese history, you will know this is a replica as there aren’t any known Ninja swords in the Japanese history books.

Take a very close look at the grain of the sword. An original sword will have a grain you can see with the naked eye because of the way in which the steel was forged. Make sure you know what to look for though as a very inexperienced person may miss the grain issue and mistake an original sword for a replica.

To protect yourself from being scammed with a replica sword when you think it is an original, don’t be in too big of a hurry to purchase it. These individuals will often try to rush the sell by telling you other people are interested in it or that they are leaving town that afternoon. A reputable sword seller will be willing to give you time to think about the purchase and contact information.

Look for swords that come with authentification letters but you also need to make sure they are real as anyone can make a nice looking copy. It is a good idea to have the sword looked at by an expert if you truly want to ensure you aren’t paying for an original sword and walking away with a replica.
