These medications cause a quick response in the body, if a patient is having an asthma attack this is the medicine needed for immediate relief.

Sometimes the asthma medication prescribed will need to be changed, as the patients body may no longer respond to the medication. There are many different types of brand named drugs on the market to treat asthma. Most are similar, and fall into the above groups of asthma medication.

A doctor will follow a patients care closely to monitor the effectiveness of the asthma medication. It is important that patients also pay close attention to their care and health needs and educate themselves about their condition.
