Preventive Medicine for Lower Left Back Pain

When it comes to back pain most people deal with the problem on an after the fact basis; that is to say, people do not deal with treating a back injury until after the injury has occurred and the possible lower right or lower left back pain reaches a level so severe they must seek treatment. Of course, this means that the injury has already occurred and can not be avoided. So, in order to dealing with such an injury it is necessary to perform a little bit of preventive medicine to drastically reduce the potential for injury. In other words, one must look at high risk behavior and attempt to eliminate such high risk activity. While the complete elimination of physical activity that might cause lower left back pain may be outright impossible, the steps can be taken to minimize the potential of such injury.

Overtraining as a Source of Lower Left Back Pain

A number of back injuries are sports or activity related and often this is the result of a freak accident or occurrence. However, such freak accidents are NOT the primary source of such injuries and the resultant lower left back pain. Often, the pain and the injuries result from overtraining. For example, if one is an avid weightlifter and performs repeated exercises as a high level of weight, repetition and intensity, the body may start to suffer a series of minor injuries that can progressively add up to the point where a major injury is only a short time away. When it comes to overdoing back injuries, the chances for serious injury are significant as martial arts legend Bruce Lee learned in 1970 when overtraining led to a back injury that left him bedridden for several months. (Lee’s injury and condition would have been completely avoided had be simply trained at a lower level of intensity)

Common Activity and Lower Left Back Pain

Not all back injuries are sports related as they can derive from overdoing common everyday activities and work related activities as well. A human being is not a robot and if the body starts to break down and sends warning signals such as lower left back pain, it is imperative that the person take it easy so as not to aggravate the condition. If a person works a physical job and it is causing extreme stress on the back, it is important to take it easy and let the body rest. Whatever money that is made working hurt will be lost in down time when one has to remain in bed for 6 months due to an injury. Just ask Bruce Lee.
