Fractures

Fractures

If you’ve ever experienced fractures you know that they can be painful. A fracture is an injury of the bone where it gets damaged just slightly. This can be painful but not as painful as when you have a broken bone. Fractures are just little fissures and aside from the pain that accompanies it, the person can pretty much go on with their day after the pain is managed. But if you take it easy, your injury will heal quicker. In fact, a lot of people don’t even realize it when they have fractures. They just know that something hurts.

Compression Fractures

Compression fractures are usually fractures that happen with the vertebrae. They can happen for a variety of reasons including from injury or just wear and tear. Either way, this is the type of injury that can be extremely painful. Since they happen at the back, it is easy for them to get aggravated and affect your daily life. You need a strong and healthy back to perform most things. And the thing with that is, you don’t realize that your back is really that important until it starts to hurt.

Stress Fractures

Stress fractures are amongst those injuries that can happen without warning. They are basically fractures of the bone that occur in a variety of conditions. Stress fractures are pretty much a sports injury. The danger with them is that someone could have a stress fracture and not realize it until it is too late. There could just be a lot of pain that could be mistaken for something else, like shin splints.

Basically, a stress fracture is something that happens over time. It isn’t like other kinds of fractures which happen because of a noticeable impact. Marathon runners, for example, are prone to stress fractures. The constant pounding on the pavement, the fact that your muscles become fatigued, these are all things that can cause stress fractures. The muscle is responsible for absorbing the shock of an impact. When the muscles get tired they cannot do this anymore. That is when stress fractures start happening. The bone ends up fracturing from the impact. And it doesn’t just happen with runners. It can happen during any activity. The one common variable is that your body is getting overworked.

Fractured Ribs

Fractured ribs are another kind of injury that can happen to your bones. They can happen at any time. Fractured ribs can occur during sports, if you get into an accident or fall, if you get into a fight, or if you have a severe case of pneumonia and need to cough a lot. They can only really happen by coughing if you have very brittle bones to begin with. But no matter how they happened, one thing is for sure- they can really hurt.

Right when it happens, you may not realize it if you have fractured ribs. In fact, you could possibly have the injury for a few days without noticing depending on how severe it is. Sometimes people ignore symptoms of pain thinking they will get better. When they don’t get better after a day or two, that is when people start taking action. The symptoms of fractured ribs include pain when touching the rib area, a sharp pain that happens with movement or coughing, or an abnormal amount of inflammation and pain around the rib area. If you think you have any of these symptoms it is a good idea to get an x-ray done and either go to the hospital or see your doctor.

Skull Fractures

Skull fractures can be a painful injury. They can also happen for a variety of reasons. They are defined as a slight break in the skull bone. These can be incredibly painful because there is not a lot of cushioning between the skull and your skin. When you hit it hard and it cracks slightly, this can cause an intense amount of pain and even accompanying brain damage.

First of all, any way that you can prevent skull fractures from happening is a good thing. If you roller blade, skateboard, bike ride, or go horseback riding or other dangerous activity it is a good idea to wear the helmet. Falling down and hitting your head can not only cause skull fractures but it can also cause brain injury or even death.
