What Women Should Know About Peri Menopause

When women think about menopause, they might refer to it as the change or simply regard it as part of the natural progression of life, which it is. However, what some women do not realize is that menopause can actually start beginning while they still menstruate. This process is known as peri menopause.

About Peri Menopause

Menopause means that the female body’s storage of estrogen is being depleted. The female body recognizes this process as a way of cleansing the body from its reproductive state. Just as the body gets rid of unused eggs each month during menstruation, the body lowers the estrogen, thus lowering the amount of eggs in the woman’s ovaries until they are not there anymore, thus completing menopause.

Peri menopause can be mistaken for PMS in women, because the symptoms are very similar. One of the more common peri menopause symptoms are the mood swings. Some women become very angry and irritable, while others become depressed. If you find that this is happening to you, when it never did before, be sure to make an appointment with your doctor.

Another common peri menopause symptom has to do with sleep patterns changing. If you have noticed this happening to you, and there have been no other factors, such as stress, that would do something to change your sleeping patterns, that might be because of peri menopause. For example, if you were someone that always had a lot of energy, you might become fatigued. Or, if you were someone who never had trouble sleeping, you might now suffer from insomnia.

If you have questions about what you think might be peri menopause, be sure to talk to your gynecologist. Technology has reached such a point that not only has the hormone variant been found that helps detect early pregnancy, so also can you have tests done to find out if you are in fact beginning menopause.

If you are a woman that is hesitant about menopause, you are not alone. However, it is important to note that while menopause can be annoying, you should not let it interfere with your life. Eating right and taking care of yourself will certainly help with the menopause process.

Some women ignore their peri menopause symptoms because they associate menopause with getting old. This could not be any farther from the truth! People are living longer than ever these days. Thus, menopause should just be considered one of the many phases in life.
