Making the Building Accessible through Wheelchair Ramp Construction
The society is mainly composed of different individuals each having their own respective qualities and characteristics which make them unique. On normative scale, there are some factors that are generally similar in the society which are called the public standards. From these factors that most social concepts, ideas and innovations are created for public use and construction however, some minority aspects should still be considered in the public perspective.
People who are physically challenged are still part of the society thus, must be included in the public perspective and issues. The population riding in wheelchair must also be considered in particular such as allotting several transportation means and mediums for their accessibility and necessities. In this concern, the idea of wheelchair ramp construction must be made mandatory for public utility structure making them inclusive towards general public access including people with disability.
Designated Point for Wheelchair Access
Public utility structures should be made to be accessible for the population in all aspect and in general perspective. With this idea, people with disabilities should also be considered wherein a designated point for entry and passageway must be considered for wheelchair access. A particular issue in this argument is the necessity of wheelchair ramp construction.
Allotting appropriate spaces for wheelchair ramp construction is an important concern for public access for both public and private construction. Buildings that are made for public access whether for the business of incoming customers, patrons, or employees/workers, a designated space for wheelchair ramp construction must be given as entry and exit points towards the building construction.
In addition to this, adequate funds, effort, and space should also be given for wheelchair ramp construction as passageway inside the building structure such as in between floor access and room access. In this aspect of wheelchair ramp construction, several means and approaches can be considered in constructing wheelchair ramp slope such as employing technological innovations such as elevator ramp or escalator mode ramp which allow easy access for the disabled population.
Ideally, wheelchair ramp construction is a concern that must applied in all possible construction facility but mainly on public buildings. Hospitals already apply the idea of wheelchair ramp construction not solely on the interest of accessibility but because of their necessity. Other facilities should likewise apply the similar idea such as city halls, public libraries, comfort rooms, restaurants, and others making them open and accessible for the disable population.
In general, wheelchair ramp construction is important to create general-wide public access for the population with disability thus, building a single social unit idea that caters to everyone in the society.
