Electric Guitars
Talking about electric guitars reminds me of rock n roll bands, especially those from the 1980’s where electric guitar solos were very popular. You could bet money on it that at least one song from each album in that ear contained a ballad with an electric guitar solo.
Electric guitars offer some amazing sounds that are the result of electricity being used to cause certain vibrations. In most cases, an amplifier is used to get the power to the guitar.
All electric guitars fit into one of three main categories. Solid body electric guitars are made from hardwood covered with lacquer and feature six strings. This type of electric guitar produces sound by pickups on the guitar being converted to string vibrations with an electrical signal. Amplifiers and speakers are used to produce sounds from solid body electric guitars.
Hollow body electric guitars have a hollow body that works the same way as a solid body electric guitar. The only different is that the hollow body allows it to vibrate in different locations so the sounds are slightly different. Electric acoustic guitars are those that have the vibration coming from the body of the guitar instead of from the strings.
The first electric guitar was invented by Adolph Rickenbacker in the 1920’s. He ran a small business selling them until 1953. The first song to use an electric guitar in it was
recorded by George Barnes in 1938. With the popularity of the electric guitar today, it is hard to believe that it took so long for one to be used in a recorded song! This was due to the fact that electric instruments weren’t marketed until the mid 1930’s.
Electric guitars have been used throughout the music industry to add wonderful sounds to a variety of types of music. Today they are even used in country music and continue to be an icon with rock n roll and heavy metal bands.
