Electric Heaters

Having enough heat for your home during the colder times of year is very important. It is also important that you can afford the heating source that you use. Electric heaters offer a very powerful source of heat that can quickly and efficiently heat up most any size of home. They are also more convenient than having to keep logs on the fire. In 1973, electric heaters saw a substantial increase in sales. This was due to the Energy Crisis that left consumers looking for a safe and affordable alternative to using oil or gas to heat their homes.

Electric heaters work by changing electrical energy into heat for your home or business. An electric heater contains a heating element that controls the flow of the electricity through a resistor. It is during this process when the energy from the electricity becomes heat. There are many different types of electric heaters to choose from. They all use this same concept to convert energy to heat, but they all deliver that heat to your home or business in different ways.

Space heaters are those that plug into a wall socket and produce enough heat for one room or a small area. They are commonly used in basements and garages. There is a light bulb in a space heater that causes the heat to go outwards. While space heaters are inexpensive, they are a fire risk and should be used only in an open area where there is nothing around to ignite.

Convention heaters get the heat to your home or business through the process of conduction. This type of electric heater involves the hot air rising to the top of cooler air. This is why it requires heater vents that are more efficient if they are located at the top of rooms instead of on the floor. Convention heaters are very efficient and they can heat up large areas as long as heating ducts and vents are properly in place.

To get the most benefit from an electric heater, it is a good idea to only use it when necessary. Don’t leave them on when no one is home, especially space heaters. For conventional heaters you need to make sure you clean the vents and ducts to keep the air circulating properly.
