Do It Yourself Organic Rose Garden Fertilizer

Compost Fertilizer
Compost fertilizer is, by far, the easiest fertilizer for an organic rose garden that you will find. Comprised of dead leaves, leftover food, and other biodegradable materials, a compost pile is the easiest way for anyone to create their own organic fertilizer. Your organic rose garden will thank you for your care when you spread this rich mixture around it’s roots.
Making compost is simple. For an average sized organic rose garden, you will need a compost pile that is roughly three feet by three feet. To begin the composting process, gather all of your lawn clippings together in an area free of combustible materials. The reason for this, is that compost makes its own heat, which breaks the ingredients down into useable fertilizer for your organic rose garden.
Once you have a good sized pile of clippings (grass, leaves, etc.), be sure to start putting your kitchen scraps in with them as well. Leftover food contains nitrogen, which is what begins the composting process. Add to your pile often, stirring it around each time; the compost is ready for spreading when it becomes a soil-like mixture, black and rich. You will soon have a rather steady supply of organic fertilizer for your organic rose garden.
Also, we found in our own organic rose garden that by burning our paper products, and adding the ash to our compost mix, the mixture was richened and the added nitrogen in the ash doubled the size of our blooms.
Alternative Fertilizers
If you don’t want to wait for a good batch of compost to build, there is always the alternative of using manure or guano as fertilizer on your organic rose garden. These products are great, quick, alternatives to chemical fertilizers; but, unlike compost which is free, they can be rather expensive. It is important to remember, if you choose to use any type of animal waste as fertilizer in your organic rose garden, be sure that small children and animals stay away. It can contain bacteria which would be harmful to your children.
