Fire sprinklers were designed to help minimize and eliminate the damages from a fire. While such sprinkler systems were originally used in businesses, they are becoming more common in homes as well.

This October, the National Fire Sprinkler Association held a presentation on the Today Show during National Fire Prevention Week. They aired two rooms on fire, one with a home fire sprinkler system and one without. The visual difference between the damage done to the two rooms lead many homeowners to begin looking into the process of installing such a system into their home.

It is reported that a home in the United States catches on fire every second. More people die in home fires each year than in all natural disasters combined. The cost of loss by home fires is estimated at one hundred billion each year. This cost includes insurance payouts, fire department equipment, and medical costs.

Response times to fires are between that they were twenty years ago. Fire departments offer better training and have better equipment. They offer training to adults and in the schools regarding awareness of fire dangers. Improvements in building codes and the making of home furnaces have also reduced the threat of fire. The fire department urges every home to have several smoke detectors in place. They emphasize that a smoke detector combined with a sprinkler system can reduce the damage from a fire by eighty percent, and reduce the chance of death by fire in your home by ninety five percent.

Many of us don’t have home fire sprinklers because we don’t really think it will happen to us. The reality of it is it can happen to any home at any time. Being prepared can be the difference between a small accident and a devastating loss of everything. That being said, what does it cost to install a home sprinkler system?

The cost of such a home system varies by the type of system you are looking for, the size of your home, the codes in your state, and who the installer is. You can research all of these areas on the internet to get an informed idea of what your cost will be. You will also want to contact your insurance agent as most will give you a significant rate reduction once the system has been installed an tested.
