Lawn Sprinklers
Lawn sprinklers are great for making sure your grass gets the attention it deserves. It today’s world, everyone is so busy that simple things like lawn watering can easily be neglected due to larger priorities. Lawn sprinkler systems can be installed in just a day or two depending on your needs. They can be programmed to water on certain days and at certain times so that you no longer need to worry about finding time to give your lawn some watering time. Having your system programmed is also great for those who find themselves on watering restrictions. It is difficult to remember what days you can water on and at what times.
Lawn sprinklers do require some maintenance. It is important that you periodically take a look while your system is on. Make sure the water is actually hitting your grass rather than the fence or the sidewalk. If not, your sprinkler heads may need to be adjusted. Most sprinkler heads retract into your yard to avoid tripping over them. When that section is programmed to go on, the heads pop up. If you notice a particular area of your lawn is not looking as green as the rest, you may have a head or two that is not popping up as it should. They head may need to be adjusted or in some cases replaced.
There are many types of sprinkler systems available for all types of lawns. In some cases, your lawn may require more than one type of system if you want to water your lawn in the most effective manner. You will also want to consider the type of soil you will be watering, the climate in your area, the size of your lawn, and how deep you want the water to saturate.
There are three main types of sprinkler systems. First is the spray system. This is ideal for small spaces that require large amounts of water such as flower beds and shrubs. The spray sprinklers amount of water output varies for each type of system. On average it will disburse 1.5 to 1.7 inches an hour. It is not recommend for use of hilly areas because the water will be able to run downhill faster than it can be absorbed into the ground. Spray sprinkler heads work in the same manner, but they remain on top of the ground.
The second type of sprinkler system is the rotor. Rotor heads are useful for covering large areas including lawns, parks, and golf courses. Their application rate is considerably less than that of spray sprinklers. Generally 0.6 to 0.8 inches per hour. Most areas and soil types have plenty of time to absorb such a limited amount of water while being constantly watered.
The drip system is recommended for use on non-turf areas to ensure that only very specific plants or sections in a certain area get watered. The application rate of this system ranges from 0.5 to 24 gallons per hour depending on your needs and the type of system you install.
