International Trade
International trade is the process of various countries importing and exporting various materials and goods to other countries. This process not only allows consumers to enjoy many different foods and luxuries from other countries, it serves as a means of supporting the economy of any given country. International trade has been taking place for Centuries when things were transported by ships across the oceans and then moved by the railroad. Today there are more means for international trade including airplanes and very large cargo ships.
Since International trade is so important, refusing to send goods to a particular country or to accept anything they have to offer can be very damaging to their economy. For example, the United States has had several issues with Cuba and decided they would not conduct International trade with them on any level. This has severely damaged the economy of Cuba, especially after Russia stopped buying their sugar cane.
For the most part, International trade operates as a free marketing system. There are some issues that can arise where International trade is concerned though. For example if the products you are exporting are damaged then it can ruin the relationship with the country buying them. Politics play a huge role in International trade and any time there is a war or issues between countries the area of International trade is strained.
The United States has a government agency in place to assist them with International Trade issues called the International Trade Administration. This entity is responsible for ensuring the United States is able to be very competitive in the area of imports and exports. They also oversee the entire process to make sure trade laws and agreements are enforced.
They work hard to enforce healthy import and export relationships among countries that the United States works with. They also inspect the items being brought into the United States to ensure they are of the best quality, especially food items. They also monitor and inspect the exports being sent from the United States so that it is know quality products are being shipped out.
The world of International trade is a complicated area, but also very rewarding. For most of us, we don’t stop to think about how the items we want at the store got there. One example is the coffee we drink. The coffee beans are imported to the United States and then purchased by the various coffee manufacturers.
