World Trade Center

From 1960 until 2001, the World Trade Center was the most active financial place in New York City. The Word Trade Center was comprised of seven large buildings including the twin towers. The World Trade Center buildings were designed as large skyscrapers that were a symbol of the American trade and financial security. It took four years and $90 million dollars to build the World Trade Center. It is believed as may as 50,000 people went to work daily at the World Trade Center and approximately 200,000 people conducted business there each day.

However, the World Trade Center has suffered from it’s share of tragedy over the years. There was a fire that caused severe damage in 1975 and a bombing that took place in 1993. The biggest devastation to the World Trade Center took place on September 11, 2001 when two high jacked airplanes hit the twin towers. The damage from this attack destroyed all seven of the buildings and it resulted in the death of over 2,700 people who were on board the airplanes, in the buildings, on the ground, and rescue teams.

The loss of lives during the 09/11 attacks were very hard for people to take. There were health concerns as clouds of black smoke heavily lingered in the air. Pieces of ashes were falling down on people like a snow storm on a winter afternoon. It took 9 months to complete the clean up of the World Trade Center attack including demolishing the remains of the buildings left standing.

The financial loss to the companies who had offices in the seven World Trade Center is said to be in the billons. The effect this has had on the economy rippled and touched everyone in the United States. Definitely not one to give up, supporters for rebuilding the World Trade Center held a contest in 2003 for designs. The new design for the World Trade Center offers more security and better structures. The new World Trade Center is expected to be completed by 2012. There is a beautiful memory in place in honor of those who lost their lives in the tragedy events that took place at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
