If you have a skill that is marketable and that people will want to pay for, such as web design or writing, you can start your own business doing that skill for others. If you decide to do this, you are considered a freelance professional. There are several different things you can do on a freelance basis. But when most people think of freelance they think of writers, artists, photographers, graphic designers, web designers, software developers, and other creative or technical/creative careers. If you are a graphic designer or you are skilled at completing graphic design work, you may want to consider getting into freelance design. There are several different opportunities for graphic designers. They can get a job with a company or firm. They can get work through an agency and work on an independent basis. They can get design work through a temporary employment agency. Or, they can work as a freelance design expert. Some even do a combination of all of these things. What this basically means is that instead of doing editing work for one particular magazine or company because you are employed by them, you can hire your editing services out to various people. This means that there is a high amount of variety to your job. People who edit for a certain publication, newspaper, or even for a business, find themselves doing the same things all the time.
