Office Security

Office security may be something that many employers don’t think is necessary, but in our society it is becoming more of a necessity than an option. In light of recent killings that have taken place due to disgruntled employees returning to the workplace, jilted lovers taking it out on the other person in pubic, and domestic violence issues that escalate to this level of violence office security is more important than ever.

Since office security is familiar with who should be working in a particular area they are easily able to notice elements out of place. They can pick up on individuals who should not be allowed in the area. Many employers are making it mandatory for employees to wear badges or other identification in the work place. Watching for violence from employees is unfortunately a big part of the job.

Office security has to be very observant. It is important to have a basic understanding of those who work in the surrounding offices as well as the hours of operation. They can also help direct individuals out of the building in the event of an evacuation or a fire. They can also provide those who work late a safe walk to their vehicle at the end of the night.

Those who have direct contact with customers are at the greatest risk of harm should an incident arise. Office security is in place to remove unruly customers from the building. This is done in an effort to prevent the issue from escalating to a higher level. It also removes the danger from the office building.

Effective office security guards generally acknowledge those they don’t recognize and offer assistance. This is a great tactic for identifying why the individual is in the building.

Having visitors sign in with a log book is a great way to ensure you have a record of everyone who comes into the office.

Statistically, office violence is on the rise and one effective way to protect against it is to have security in place. Workplace homicide is the number one killer of women in the workplace and ranks second for men. In many instances of such office violence there were signs that the individual was irate and a threat before it happened. Office security can help identify such individuals.
