Clinical Psychiatry

Clinical psychiatry involves many different aspects. It is concerned with identifying the mental health needs of individuals including children. There is no cure for mental health illnesses so the best we can hope for is an effective treatment plan. Since each person is different as it their mental health issues, there is not cookie cutter approach that will solve the issue. Therefore a variety of different medications and therapy programs have to be tried until the right combination is found.

Forensic Psychiatry

Forensic psychiatry is a very detailed and complicated area that is commonly used in a court of law. This involves the psychiatrist working with those who have been accused of a crime to determine their mental health status. It can also be applied to determining the damage that has mentally been done to the victims involved. Forensic psychiatrists are often asked to testify as expert witnesses based on the information they have found by working with the victims or criminals involved in any given case.

Many people often get the term psychiatrist and psychologist confused. While there are some similarities they are very different. A psychologist often offers counseling and therapies to help individuals and families overcome issues. The length of time the individual needs to be in counseling depends on their needs and how well they respond to the techniques used.
