There is a maximum of 13 tricks per hand because there has to be four cards per trick. The trick is won by the player that has the highest trump for that suite. If you don’t have a card that matches the suit that is put down you simply have to place any card down to play. At the end of the round each player counts the number of tricks they have won.
There are plenty of variations to the game of spades so it is important that you understand the rules that will be used before you begin playing. There can also be variations to the scoring methods and the way in which bids are made.
