Oddly enough the first stamp collectors were children and teenagers. As they grew up, they kept collecting stamps. At this time many other adults had begun collecting also. Today many kids still take up the hobby every day because it’s fun and interesting. The hobby isn’t really expensive and doesn’t fill the house full of toys.

Stamp collecting for kids is a great way for them to learn about the world. One fun exercise is to put a map on a bulletin board. Then as the young hobbyist collects a stamp from a different state or country, he can pinpoint the area with a stick pin.

Often kids asks friends and family to send them interesting stamps when they send cards or letters. If your child is collecting stamps from different countries, he could ask everyone he knows to send him a letter from any country they visit. Parents can also ask their business associates to mail their child letters from countries they visit.

Many kids just like pretty stamps. They really don’t care if the stamps are thematic in nature; they simply want an interesting stamp. If new stamps come out with Disney characters, your kids will surely want to collect them. Cute animals are also quite popular.

Taking your kids to the United States Post Office is a great way to interest them in stamp collecting. The post office is full of pretty stamp displays that will surely interest your budding hobbyist. Because stamps are pretty inexpensive, your child can buy some stamps and start putting them in his stamp collection book. These can also be purchased in the post office or your local Hobby Lobby.

After a few visits to the local post office, your child is on his way to collecting stamps. Before long he is hooked. At this point he will start asking everyone he knows to send him stamps. There are many websites for children who collect stamps. They can even conference with other stamp collecting kids. Be sure to monitor any communication your child has with anyone. As we all know, the Internet is anonymous. If your child wants to exchange stamps with other kids, that is great. Again you must monitor your child’s Internet use even if he is only having fun with stamps. You can never be too careful with the Internet.

Stamp collecting kids will often become collectors when they are adults. Stamp collecting is a great hobby and a fun way to learn about the world. If your child wants to collect stamps, give them a little boost in the right direction. Visit your local post office today.

Most stamp collectors collect them for fun and enjoyment. Although their stamps have little monetary worth, they are important to them. Some hobbyists enjoy thematic stamp collecting. The collect stamps with themes that are meaningful to them. Thematic stamp collecting makes for really beautiful collections,

One very popular theme for stamp collection is stamps from foreign countries. Often you can even get the stamps for free or for very little money. With a little ingenuity you can collect stamps from as many countries as you are interested in. Many young collectors don’t have a lot of money so they can find ways to get what they want and not spend their allowance.

If you have friends or family who visit foreign countries, simply ask them to send you a letter while they are away. Asking them to use a nice stamp that illustrates a particular country isn’t a big deal and most people will comply. If you are lucky, they might even bring you some more when they return. You can offer to get their mail in return for the stamps.

Many big businesses get mail from countries all over the world. If a friend or family member works in such a business, he can ask co-workers to save interesting stamps for collecting. Most people will be glad to comply as long as all they have to do is give you an envelope. Co-workers may even know other people who can donate stamps. It never hurts to ask.

Another great thematic collection would be of animals around the world or animals indicative of a certain country. Everyone loves animal stamps because they are so cute. These are particularly fun for children. If you have friends or relatives who regularly write or send cards, ask them if they don’t mind sending interesting animal stamps because you or your child is collecting them. This request is really easy to implement and rarely will anyone turn you down,

Each year the United States Postal Service honors certain important Americans. Collecting stamps that honor people is a great thematic stamp collecting idea. If your children collects stamps, collecting important Americans is a great way for them to learn about the history of our country. Because the Post Office advertises the stamps they are selling, it is quite easy to buy these stamps each year.

Thematic stamp collecting is a great hobby. Figurig out which theme suits you best is the first step to figuring out what theme interest you most. Then you can research the best way to start your thematic stamp collecting. Happy collecting.

Stamp collecting is a very popular hobby all over the world. People have been collecting stamps since the first Penny Black was created in 1840. Children and teenagers began to collect stamps because they were fun and interesting. Most adults thought the hobby was silly but helped their children collect stamps to humor them. As these young collectors grew up, stamp collecting also became an adult hobby.

When adults began collecting stamps, most were very serious about their collections. They wanted help organizing their stamps, learning about their stamps value, and researching and identifying stamps. These older stamp collectors no longer collected just for fun. Many thought that stamp collecting was a way to make money. Few if any succeeded in making much money collecting stamps.

There are many stamp collecting books available for collectors. Some are for kids who enjoy collecting stamps from all over the world. These simple stamp collecting books help children to organize their stamps and to figure out the ones that are less known. These stamp collecting books are written for a younger audience so that they are easily understood. These valuable tools help kids to become serious collectors in the future. They probably won’t make any money with their collections, but their stamp collecting books will help them not pay too much for their stamps. They will also help them not to give away a valuable stamp to an unscrupulous collector who want to take advantage of their youth.

Most stamp collectors who started young also keep their stamp collecting books. Before long they will have a nice library of books because most of them are revised every year. Stamp collecting books are available online and in most good bookstores. They vary in price and value.

One of the best books for collectors who are serious about United States stamps is the Scott Catalog. This book focuses on stamps from the United States. Updated each year, this book is a wise purchase for stamp collectors.

In you are fond of stamps from England, you might want to buy a copy of Stanley Gibbons catalogue. This books is great for researching and organizing stamps from the UK. Any serious collector also collects these useful tools.

In France the book to buy is Yvert. If you are not planning a trip to France, the catalogue of French stamps is available online or as a special order in most bookstores. German stamp collectors select Michel as their guide. Again it is available online or as special orders.

Whatever type stamps you collect, you are wise to buy stamp collecting books to help you prosper in your favorite hobby.

Stamp collecting is a fascinating and rewarding hobby. If you are new to the world of US stamp collecting, there is much for you to learn. A good first stop is the American Philatelic Society, an organization devoted to the hobby of collecting stamps. Members of this society gain access to a variety of resources and benefits related to the world of stamp collecting. Even if you’re not ready to join an organization such as this, you can still learn the basics of this pursuit and start your collection.

The first thing you will need is an album in which to store and display the stamps you collect. It is important to choose an album specifically designed for this purpose that has acid-free archival quality pages. You will also need tweezers suitable for handling delicate stamps, and stamp hinges which are used to attach the stamp to the album pages. A magnifying glass for viewing stamp details is also a must. All of the supplies you will need can be purchased at most any hobby supply store or even online. Sometimes you can find philatelic kits for beginners which contain everything you need to get started.

A good first stop when starting your American stamp collection is the post office. Here you can buy single stamps, stamps that come in books, sheets and rolls, collectible stamps and more. You can also check the USPS web site to view all the stamps available for purchase that may not be offered at your local office. Of course, you can also take stamps right off of envelopes you’ve received. To do this, you can carefully soak stamps in cool water until the adhesive loosens and the stamp can be removed from the envelope.

Another great place for beginners to US stamp collecting to shop is Ebay. On Ebay, you can view and purchase a variety of stamps from around the world, including the United States. You may find rare stamps offered here that are not available in your locality. When shopping via Ebay, always make sure you deal with sellers who have a lengthly history of positive feedback. This will ensure you don’t get scammed by a dishonest seller. If you can find a seller that is associated with a philatelic society or group, all the better. Ebay can be a wonderful resource for stamp collectors, as long as you do business with legitimate and experienced stamp sellers.

Stamp collecting for veterans can be a relaxing and pleasant pursuit which can celebrate their time spent serving their country. Many military veterans choose to collect U.S. stamps which have a special significance to them. There are stamps which were issued to honor veterans and these are quite popular with many collectors. If you or a loved one are a veteran seeking a new hobby with historical meaning, philatelics just might be for you. Here are some tips to get you started:

First, you will need to gather some supplies. Stamps cannot be stored just anywhere. You need an album which is especially designed for stamps. The pages must be acid-free as pages which contain acid can damage your stamps. You will also need special tongs or tweezers made for picking up and handling stamps without damaging them. The oils from your fingers can compromise the integrity of stamps therefore you should not pick them up this way. Stamp hinges are used to attach the stamp to the album without damaging it. You should also invest in a good magnifying glass to view tiny details. A few books about philatelics and the identification of rare stamps is also a good thing to have.

Once you’ve got your stamp collecting supplies ready, it’s time to get the stamps. Stamps can be removed from envelopes by soaking them in a shallow bath of cool water. Certain rare stamps and/or dark colored stamps should not be soaked. You can purchase stamps from your post office or order them from the USPS via telephone or even online. The USPS often releases collectible and limited edition stamps which are very popular with many collectors. The Internet is also a great place to search for additions to your collection. There are numerous online shops that sell rare stamps from around the world. Ebay is also a treasure trove of rare collectibles which include stamps.

Stamp collecting for veterans can be a hobby the whole family can enjoy. Grandparents and parents can bond with younger generations over a treasured stamp collection. Searching for new stamps to collect can be exciting and rewarding for many collectors. Some collectors view their stamp collection as an investment, while others see it as a sentimental heirloom. No matter how you look at it, your stamp collection is rich with value and history which grows as the years go by.

The practice of philately or philatelics, also known as stamp collecting, is one that can be enriching and enjoyable for all ages. Stamp collecting for children can be a fun and rewarding hobby for youngsters and their parents or older siblings. Some kids are old enough to handle their stamp collection themselves, while others will require a bit of assistance. Bonding with your child over their collection is certainly an experience you will both remember for a lifetime! Not only that, but helping your child collect stamps is a great way to teach them about history.

The first thing you and your child will need is the proper supplies. You can purchase starter kits made especially for children that contain everything they need to begin collecting stamps. Or, you can purchase each item separately from your local hobby shop or even online. You’ll need an album with acid-free pages, stamp hinges, rounded tip tongs and a magnifying glass. There are other philatelic supplies you might come across, but these are the basics. After you have these items, you’re ready to collect stamps! A good starting place is the post office. Take your child on an outing and let them choose the stamps they like the most. You can also help your child remove stamps from envelopes to be discarded by soaking them in a shallow bath of cool or lukewarm water.

A fun way to collect stamps, especially for kids, is by theme. For example, your child might want to collect stamps with a train, plane or automobile theme. Or maybe they love animals and want to collect wildlife stamps. Other themes include celebrities, holidays, military and of course international stamps. Your child can devote their entire album to one theme, or have certain pages designated for certain themes. Every time your child obtains a new stamp, help them research the background and history of the stamp.

Stamp collecting for children is not just a fun hobby, it can be an investment. Imagine how much your child’s collection might be worth when they are old enough to have children and grandchildren of their own. Even if your child does not end up keeping their album as an investment piece it can be, and should be, a prized family heirloom. When your child starts collecting stamps, you may want to encourage them to join a local or online group for junior collectors. This will help them make friends with other young collectors and learn more about the world of philately.

Stamp collecting is a popular hobby that many people around the world enjoy. For ages, philately has been a beloved pursuit. For many years, the hobby was about as low tech as you could get. These days, however, stamp collecting has found its way to the World Wide Web. There are a large number of stamp collecting websites which offer many benefits to philatelists everywhere. In this article we will explore some of those benefits.

Shopping for collecting supplies is one thing you can do online. Rather than trudging from shop to shop in person, you can do all your shopping from the comfort of home. The Internet is like a global shopping mall where you can buy anything and everything. If you’re new to philately and need supplies, there are some basics that can get you off to a good start. The supplies needed are not that expensive and are easy to find at most any online hobby shops.

First, choose an album you like with acid-free, archival quality pages. To attach your stamps to the album you will need stamp hinges. A pair of special tongs will allow you to handle your stamps safely. You can even buy the stamps themselves online, from collectors, shops and online auctions. Not only that, but you can also shop for handy software that can help you manage and value your collection more effectively.

The Internet contains a wealth of valuable and helpful information about the pursuit of philately. One of the finest sites for collectors is the American Philatelic Society. In addition to offering membership options on the site, they also provide lots of instruction and how-tos for new collectors. Some of the things you’ll learn on their site include how and where to obtain low cost collectible stamps and how to soak stamps in order to remove them from envelopes.

In addition to the American Philatelic Society site, there are plenty of other sites that feature pages of fantastic information about stamp collecting. You’ll find ebooks, articles and more which pertain to this popular hobby. There are also lots of online groups and message boards where you can chat with other collectors, and sometimes even buy, sell and trade stamps. There’s no doubt about it — stamp collecting websites can enrich and enhance your philatelic experience!

Most stamp collectors acquire stamps for the sheer joy of collecting. Their stamps are valuable because of their beauty or sentimentality. These collectors have no desire to make lots of money with their stamp collections. They also trade stamps with other collectors who are also collecting as a hobby. In fact even serious collectors rarely make much money with their collections. Of course, there is the rare collector who finds a much sought after stamp and sells it for a huge profit. When people read about the huge windfall, they might start collecting stamps thinking they will also make a lot of money when in fact few collectors ever see any great monetary reward. Most stamp collectors feel that their enjoyment is the proper reward.

Most collectors see stamp collecting and value as an amorphous proposition. To these serious collectors, all stamps have value even if the stamp is only worth a few pennies. The value is in their beauty, their history, or their sentimentality. That is true collecting; collecting for the sheer joy. These collectors enjoy showing off their collections to other collectors through clubs or stamp shows.

There are some characteristics of stamps that make them worth more monetarily than others. First of course is the rarity of the stamp. Today finding a rare stamp is not an impossibility but doesn’t happen very often. Just because you find an old stamp does not mean it is worth much. The original Penny Black is only worth about twenty dollars and it is very old, the first stamp in fact. Even though it is the first stamp created, it is not considered rare because there are so many Penny Blacks on the market. Many people kept this stamp because it was the first of its kind. When there is a glut in the market, prices always fall. Now if you can find an a Penny Black that has never been used or cancelled, you might have a rare stamp. Even at that it’s not worth millions or even thousands. See stamp collecting for money is hard.

Of course, the condition of the stamp is very important. The stamp must be in pristine condition to be worth much even if it is rare. The stamp should be bright in color and not faded. Yes, you can judge a stamp by its cover. If the stamp is torn, dirty, stained or creased, it is of little to no value. Some people use these stamps as place holders until they run across a better one. The lightness of the cancellation marks is also important. Lighter marks are much better than darker ones.

Stamp collecting and value does take practice. Another important point might not be apparent at first view. Now it is time to take a hard look at the image on the stamp. Is the image centered correctly? If the stamp is off center, its value is decreased.

Therefore, accessing a stamp’s monetary worth is quite difficult. Checking the stamp for its rarity, its beauty, it cancellation marks, and it centering takes years of practice. Even then truly making money in stamp collecting is a risky business proposition. Collecting stamps for their intrinsic value is much more profitable and fun.
