The Benefit of Swing Dancing Instructions
Are you looking for a fun way to get plenty of exercise and meet new people? If so, you should consider swing dancing instructions. Taking a class at your local dance studio is a fantastic way to learn the basics of this fun form of dance. Not only is swing dance a fantastic form of cardio, it is the perfect way to meet like-minded people. Swing dance is definitely a social form of dance which requires at least two people. Many swing dance competitions utilize teams who work together in their routines.
If you’re not sure whether or not swing dancing classes are right for you, read a few books on the subject or watch some DVDs of swing dancers before making your choice. The Swing Book by Degen Penner and Scotty Morris is a good introduction, as is the Swing Dancing with Teresa Mason instructional DVD. Once you take some time to get a feel for the dance, you will know if it is something that interests you. Many dancers love swing not just for the exercise and socialization, but also for the fun retro costumes.
You probably won’t be wearing any costumes in dance class, however. It’s best to go in your regular workout clothes and a good pair of dance sneakers unless otherwise specified by your instructor. Many classes hold dance events after the last class. Depending on your location, there may be at least one swing dance club near you where you can use your newfound swing dance knowledge. Even non-swing clubs often hold special swing dance nights as this type of dance is quite popular these days.
Swing dancing instructions are great for couples as well as individuals. Because swing dancing is a social pursuit, it must be done in pairs. Even though partners often switch off, it’s a good idea to take lessons with a partner rather than on your own. Some dance studios require you bring a partner to swing dancing class, others match up their students and provide the opportunity for students to experience dancing with different partners as is done in the traditional swing clubs. Even if you’ve never danced a step in your life, a beginners’ swing dance class can teach you the basics and have you doing the Lindy Hop in no time!
