Famous Playwrights
William Shakesphere is considered to be one of the most famous playwrights. His work helped shape English Literature. His works include a variety of themes including comedy, history, tragedy, and poetry. His birthday is not known for sure, but it is guess around April of 1564. Only two authentic paintings of Shakesphere exist.
William Shakesphere did not attend any University to learn to write. He simply did. He wrote his first playwright around 25 years of age, called Henry VI, Part I. Shakesphere never published any of his plays. It was only after his death that two friends John Hemminges and Henry Condell made his work into plays as a tribute and dedication to their friend.
Shakesphere work has seen cruelty by the critics. There are complains that some of his work belittles women bases of various dialogue. He also addresses penis size and homosexuality in some of his work. Neither issue was taken well by the critics. The heavy content of suicide was not taken lightly in his work. Suicide takes place 13 times in his works. Some scholars claim this is because Shakesphere was suicidal. Not much is known about his personal life to put that issue into perspective.
There are those in society who are angered by his work becoming popular because they claim it is racist. Blacks are continually berated throughout his works. Anti-Semitism also appears. The question that has never been answered is did Shakespeare truly believe these things he put into his work? Or was he simply putting the things he saw take place in society into his work? It is doubtful we will ever know.
The works of Shakespeare are famous all around the world. They are studied by scholars, college students, professions, and often required in high school English classes. His work continues to influence society as a whole.
