Star Astronomy

All of us have gazed upon the sky and taken a good look at the stars on a clear night. Many of us have even made a wish as we watched a falling star shoot through the sky. Some of us are content with that but others of us want to find out more about what stars are all about. The science of Astronomy holds all the answers.

Stars are balls of gas millions of miles away in the galaxy. They look very small as you are looking up at them in the sky but they are very large. The sun is one of the biggest stars out there and it definitely burns the brightest. Stars are categorized by they size and shape by Astronomers.

Red Dwarf stars are very small but they shine very brightly because the smaller a star is the longer it takes to burn the gases it contains. The hotter a star is the brighter it will shine. There are more Red Dwarf stars in the sky than any other type.

Yellow stars are medium sized and they have a yellow color to them because they have a warm temperature. Yellow stars are said to be able to burn for billions of years before they run out of gas. The sun is considered to be a yellow star. It is believed the sun will burn out in about 5 billion years because it will no longer have gas to burn. Yet Astronomers believe that it will take billions of years after that for it to cool off enough to stop glowing.

There are millions of stars in the sky, and on a clear night you can easily see 3,000 to 5,000 of them. There is a registry where you can purchase a star in the sky and name it. This is a great gift to give someone who loves Astronomy or to honor someone who has passed away. If you are interested in this, take a look at www.starnamer.com.
