The National Earthquake Information Center (NEIC) is the resource we turn to for accurate information regarding earthquakes. They are able to determine when and where an earthquake will take place. An earthquake is classified as waves of energy that result from shifting masses of rock that is miles below the surface of the earth.

California Earthquakes

California is well known for its beautiful scenery including the ocean and the Hollywood stars. It is also well known for being a central location where earthquakes take place. Some researchers predict California may one day fall into the ocean as a result of earthquakes or simply separate from the rest of the United States just like the islands of Hawaii.

Earthquake Safety

Protecting yourself and your family from the devastation of an earthquake is a very scary thought. However, it is something many of us have to be prepared for because of the areas in which we live. While some areas are more prone to have earthquake occurrences, they can happen most anywhere at any time. It is a myth that the entire ground opens up during an earthquake and attacks like an underground serpent. The shift in the underground takes place but is over very fast.

Earthquake Relief

The results of earthquakes can include piles of rubble, people left homeless, shortages of medical supplies, shortages of food, fires, mudslides, and a variety of other concerns. People may not have anywhere to go depending on the severity of the earthquake and the areas that have been damaged.

Recent Earthquakes

Many of us have read about major earthquakes on the internet and in newspapers. We also see the aftermath shown on the major news channels. Some of us have even experienced being in an earthquake. Earthquakes take place all over the world on a daily basis, with more than 500,000 occurring each year. However, many of them are so low in magnitude that no one feels them. They earthquake tracking devices are the only recorded evidence that they actually took place.
