Endangered Plants
Depending on where you live you may think there is an abundance of plants in the world. However may of them are at risk of becoming extinct. In the United States there are currently 735 endangered plants on the list that in jeopardy of being completely eliminated from the world. There are plans in place to protect about 266 of them so far but there is plenty left to do for the rest of them.
Each recovery plan for an identified plant that is endangered is initiated only after research has been concluded. The research portion of the project can take up to a few years to complete. In the mean time the survival rate of the plant continues to drop at a significant rate. Each recovery plan has to include information on the current status of the plant as well as the number of the remaining.
In order to be successful each recover plan has to identify the factors that are contributing to the demise of the population. This way changes can be implemented on a personal and global scale. Educating society to the ways they can help protect plant life is very important because the majority of individuals don’t realize they are causing any damage.
All plants help keep the environment and the air in good condition for us. They produce chlorophyll that is used in the atmosphere. They also taken in carbon dioxide and replace it with oxygen. Humans can become very ill from too much carbon dioxide and they need plenty of oxygen to survive. As plants are becoming extinct there is more carbon dioxide in the air and less oxygen for the growing population of the world.
Many plants are also used for making a variety of medications. If they become extinct it could affect the availability of various medications people need to survive. Many of these plants haven’t yet been fully researched to find out what they have to offer us. By allowing those plants to become extinct we may lose the opportunity to benefit from the potential properties of that plant.
You can find a complete list of the different endangered plants online. By reducing the amount of pollution you contribute you plants have a better rate of survival. You also need to remove weeds and brush from plant areas so that they don’t have to fight for the available nutrients.
