Most police regulations require officers to complete a target accuracy test with at least 75% accuracy on an annual basis. This test requires at least 50 rounds of ammunition to be fired, with ½ of them being fired at a distance of 25 yards or more.
Chiefs of police often conduct random firearm inspections on their officers. The goal is to make sure they are all working properly, the firearm being used falls under mandated regulations, and ensuring the safety of the officers and the public they serve.
