World Geography
The arena of world geography covers many different aspects of the cultures and environments that are found throughout the world. It can be fascinating to learn about the climate, land, agriculture, and many other areas of different countries. Too often we get blindsided by what we see in our own culture.
Taking a look at the vast differences around the world can help use appreciate what we do have as well as understand why other countries have to live in the manner in which they do.
One thing that is very fascinating about world geography is the predictions that the experts have made for the future due to the shifting of the land over time. It is believed that one million years from now Los Angeles California will be very close to the islands of Hawaii.
For those of you who think this could be far fetched, millions of years ago it is believed all of the land of the seven continents was one. Yet due to changes in the plate tectonics they separated into the seven separate parts. It is believed that underneath the surface of the land masses there are plates approximately 50 miles thick.
They shift so slowly that it takes thousands of years of for the differences to be identified. Yet with the technology we have in place, it is well documented the location of each land mass.
This technology has confirmed that 2 million years ago what we know as New York City was located on the Equator. There is also documentation that shows the Atlantic Ocean grows by one inch each year. This is the same amount as the Pacific Ocean decreases each year. The Andes Mountains in South America continue to get taller as time passes by. All of these instances are sure signs that geography around the world is constantly evolving.
Another issue that affects world geography is the fact that there are still many active volcanoes in various locations. It is believed the islands of Hawaii formed from the cooled off lava of volcanoes. The area of world geography is one of subtle changes but if you look back at the history of what is documented you will quickly realize that significant changes have taken place and will continue to do so.
