Germs are classified as pathogens that can cause illness and disease. Germs are everywhere. They are very small, and can only be seen with a microscope. A study conducted showed that 25% of women’s purses contain E. coli contamination! Further research shows the average work office has more germs that your bathroom. Considering how often we eat lunch at our desk, that is pretty unappetizing information! Germs consume or energy and weaken our immune system.

Spermophobia is the fear of germs. While it might seem funny thinking about it, it is very really for thousands of people. They suffer from a wide range of symptoms including shortness of breath, sweating, nausea, shaking, fear, anger, and anxiety. Most people suffering from spermophobia understand that their fear is unrealistic, however that doesn’t make it go away. Sometimes just thinking about germs can cause the symptoms to appear.

Germs can lead to many illnesses and diseases. Chickenpox, strep throat, and athlete’s foot are just a few of the things you can get by germs being spread. The most common way germs are spread is by respiratory droplets that result when you cough or sneeze. Even covering your mouth and using a tissue don’t stop all of the tiny particles from getting into the air. As easy as it sounds, researchers claim that washing your hands after coughing, sneezing, and using the bathroom reduces your chances of getting sick by 50%. This is because germs need a live host to survive. Washing removes them. Many germs can live on tables, doorknobs, and drawer handles for up to 20 minutes, so again, washing your hands can eliminate the spreading of germs.

Wash your hands, and you can prevent up to 50% of germs and diseases that are spread through the air from affecting you. Considering the amount of germs out there, that is tremendous reduction by doing something so simple. This ounce of prevention can save your health in the long run. Germs wear down our immune system.

Staying Germ Free

Staying germ free is easier said than done. With so many types of germs out there, it is impossible to prevent them all from finding you. However, you can help minimize the effects of these germs. Washing your hands regularly with a mild soap several times throughout the day will be very beneficial. Germs can linger on doorknobs and other surfaces, so it is wise to wipe them down with soap and water or Lysol on a regular basis.
