Geothermal Power

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

Geothermal power is basically the use of a natural heat source to generate electricity. This includes geysers. For example, there are places in Iceland where people are using the geysers to generate electricity. This is a very interesting process and the fact that there are people out there who want to use alternative forms of fuel is a very good thing. We live in a world where the price of fossil fuels has gotten to be really expensive. It is a nonrenewable resource which means that once all the oils is gone, it is gone forever. This is not true with sources of power such as the wind and a heat source. These will always be in existence. Sure, the particular geyser that generates the power in a certain area may dry up, but there will always be some other way to get energy. For example, the sun will always be there so solar power could be a good option as well.

Geysers

Monday, October 29th, 2007

Geysers are hot springs that occasionally shoot up into the air, ejecting steam and hot water in the atmosphere. They are interesting occurrences and could be dangerous. The force and the steam could easily burn the skin. The word ‘geyser’ actually comes from a place in Iceland. The Geysir is an erupting spring in a part of Iceland and the word got borrowed into English to describe the phenomenon. There are Geysers in some parts of the United States. One of them, called Old Faithful, erupts at a pretty regular schedule.

Hot Springs

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

Hot springs are underground springs that generate heat. Actually, they don’t necessarily need to be underground. The heat is generated underground and the springs are either scalding hot and unsuitable for humans to bathe in, or they are mildly hot and can be quite healing. However, before you go into any hot springs, it is important to gain an understanding of what kind of spring it is. Usually if the hot springs are suitable for tourists, you will be able to find information about it when you enter the area.

Usually the government chooses to protect places in the United States that has something really worth protecting. In the case of Yellowstone, one of the big reasons why the government wanted to turn the area into a park is because of the geysers.

Yellowstone

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

Yellowstone National Park is a place that has a lot of natural beauty. There are a lot of wild animals to view and the scenery is amazing. It is located in Wyoming which is considered a very pretty state by a lot of people. One thing that makes Yellowstone interesting, however, is the geysers. The most popular of them, Old Faithful, is a very powerful geyser. Geysers are hot springs that erupt from the ground and let hot water and steam get into the air. If you get in the way of these geyser eruptions, you could get severe burns. The park is good at keeping people away from the danger areas. You can get close enough to see the geysers but not too close so that you get hurt and severely burned.
