Lasers

Lasers are very much the stuff that science fiction is made of. So many stories have lasers used as weapons. And it is no wonder that lasers fascinate those who write and read the stories. They are fascinating because they can actually perform functions such as cut through things, depending on how powerful they are. Lasers can be used for anything from surgery to simply using them as a pointer for presentations. Some functions require a more powerful laser. For example, lasers used to point at things during presentations will not be as powerful as those used for surgery.

Dental Lasers

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

Dental lasers are lasers that are used in certain dental procedures. Even though it may now be widely accepted as a word, LASER actually stands for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation. What this basically means is that lasers, dental lasers included, are concentrated forms of energy that serve different purposes. They can be used as pointers, in surgery or dental surgery, and for cutting things. It all depends on the type of laser used and the strength of the laser used.

Medical Lasers

Medical lasers have changed a lot of things about medicine and surgery. Laser stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. What this means is that lasers are a concentrated from of one type of light, or one wavelength. This allows for greater power and strength and can perform different functions. People who take physics will learn about lasers in their classes. The science and physics behind it can be quite fascinating.

Cutting Lasers

Monday, October 8th, 2007

Cutting lasers are lasers that are used to cut things. These lasers are used to cut things in a precise manner and it is a popular technique for use in industry. But there are several kinds of lasers. The weaker ones are used in products such as laser pointers. In order for lasers to become cutting lasers they need to be incredibly high powered. And the cutting lasers don’t cut things in the traditional sense. They are basically a very concentrated heat source. When applied to a material they burn or melt it away thus causing it to ‘cut’ into several different pieces. But since the lasers can get directed in a precise manner, this is a more effective way to cut thing that really need to be accurate.

Green Lasers

Monday, October 1st, 2007

In today’s marketplace, lasers have a lot of practical uses, including working as a pointer for presentations and lectures. Green lasers are a type of laser pointer that became available around the year 2000. These green lasers fall under the class of DPSS lasers, or diode pumped solid state lasers. Traditional red laser pointers are not all that complex. Compared to those, green lasers have a much more intricate state of complexity.
