Sharks

Sharks are fascinating creatures. It is believed they roamed the ocean floors even before dinosaurs walked the Earth. They are a very strong species. They have evolved very little through time. Sharks have gotten a bad reputation since the early 1970’s movie Jaws about killer sharks. Sharks have a very sharp sense of smell, but very poor eyesight. It is believed shark attacks are not based on anger, however but on mistaking people for a sea creature and food. There number of human shark attacks is very low, less than 100 per year. Less than 10 people are seriously injured or killed by sharks each year. Ironically, it seems that such incidents are highly publicized when they do occur.

Pet Sharks

Many of us enjoy having a pet around the house. For some, the pets they choose are very exotic such as poisonous snakes or pet sharks. Britney Spears and Kevin Federline had a huge disagreement over his 6 pet sharks, according to the tabloids anyway! Sharks in aquariums have become very popular. People believe that since it is in a home aquarium it is not dangerous. That is not true. All sharks have very sharp teeth. If you get bit by one, you will definitely be feeling the pain from it!

Great White Shark

The great white shark is one of the most feared predators in the world. It is one of 600 species of sharks. On average, this shark grows to 20 feet long and weights over 5,000 pounds. Larger ones have been found, and one is in the Guinness Book of World Records as they largest shark caught.

Hammerhead Shark

The hammerhead shark has quite a unique look. Named for its wide, flat head that resembles the top of a hammer, this creature roams the warm waters of the coastlines. The design of their head gives the hammerhead incredible swimming abilities. The eyes are spaced apart, giving better vision. They grow to a size of about 11 feet long. The feed on fish, other small sharks, and stingrays.

Shark teeth are a collectible that is in big demand it today’s market. The teeth from the Megalodon are sought by serious shark teeth collectors. Theses teeth have the highest return on the market from the entire species of sharks. Teeth from the Magalodon are very rare.
