Eclipses
Eclipses can really be fun to watch. They are an interesting way to try to understand the moon and the sky. Solar eclipses happen in a matter of seconds and you cannot stare at the sun directly when this happens or else you could end up burning your retina, often permanently. Lunar eclipses are slower and gentler and the full ones take all night. With a lunar eclipse, the earth blocks the light that the moon gets from the sun. The reason why the moon lights up at night is because the light from the sun illuminates it. When the sun is blocked, this cannot happen.
If you go through your lifetime without seeing any eclipses you are really missing out. Even if one is scheduled in your area, the weather needs to be in your favor. However, if you do get to see one, that is truly an excellent site. Remember that lunar eclipses take a solid commitment so if you had the chance to watch the whole thing, that is a big plus to your character. But some people never get the chance to view a whole one. Either they never came to their area, or the night was cloudy so they missed it.
You can learn about eclipses in a variety of ways and you can also spread the knowledge to others. For starters, the best way to learn about them is to make sure that you view one or two of them in your lifetime. Before viewing it you may want to look into why they happen. You can get as detailed as you want. Some people benefit from reading overview articles. Others already know the basics and want to get more in depth. You also do not need to look at it from a scientific perspective. You can approach it from a cultural or historical one. The basic point of studying and viewing eclipses is that you do exactly what you want to do. Unless you need to research them for a project or paper, the way you gather the knowledge is only limited by what kind of knowledge you want. So if you want to view eclipses, all you need to do is find out when they are and then experience them.
