Ringworm
Ringworm is a skin condition that is caused by a fungus that gets into the body and cause irritation. It is called ringworm because the skin usually develops these irritating, large rings. Once the rings develop it becomes clear that there is something wrong with the skin. Once you notice that your skin is getting irritating and if you suspect that it is ringworm, you should go see a doctor. This is one of those things that definitely need treatment. There are some places that are common for ringworm to develop including on the skin and in your scalp. And what is interesting about ringworm is that even though the name suggests that it is caused by worms, it is actually caused by a fungus. You can also get ringworm on the foot or nails. Actually, athlete’s foot is a form of ringworm so if you’ve had athletes foot then you’ve had ringworm.
This is a problem that is highly contagious which means that you can actually get it from someone. If you know someone who has ringworm you should definitely stay away from them. And, it doesn’t just affect people. Your pet could have it as well. If your skin touches the infected skin, you will probably get it. That is why if you have pets you should be very careful of that. If they have ringworm you may not be able to see it right away because it would be under their fur.
If you realize you have it, there are some things you can do to treat it. First of all, it can be treated with fungicides. These are things that are designed to kill the fungal infection. There are topical options and also internal options. If the infection is really difficult to treat you could end up needing to use the internal options. But that is up to your doctor to decide. Keep in mind that there are some side effects for the internal preparations, especially on the liver. You need to make sure to monitor the liver. If you have ringworm there are some things to keep in mind. Remember to be consistent with the treatment otherwise it could take a while for the infection to clear up.
