Let’s face it; we are all guilty of procrastination at one time or another. Perhaps it is about a project that we don’t want to do, or one that we really don’t have time for. Maybe it is simply a matter of something more interesting coming along that vies for our attention. However, when procrastination becomes a way of life, it can create undue stress for the person who can’t seem to finish work on time. There are many reasons why this phenomenon may occur, but the end result is usually the same; sleepless nights and tense days until deadlines are met and projects are completed. It’s not a desirable way to live, which is why many will seek methods for overcoming procrastination. But the first step is in defining what it is and what causes it.

All of us are guilty of procrastination at one time or another. An important project can get pushed to the back burner for a number of reasons; lack of time, lack of information or lack of motivation. But when your tendency to procrastinate becomes just that - a tendency - the consequences of the act can become far reaching and even serious. For some, simply examining these consequences is enough to eliminate the urge to procrastinate. For others, the process may require more effort and even professional counseling to get back on track and say goodbye to procrastination once and for all. For now, let’s focus on the consequences of procrastination that make this phenomenon a difficult and dangerous one indeed.

Those who keep putting things off until the last minute often find themselves unable to complete project due to time constraints while very few thrive on beating a closing deadline.
