Girl Scout Uniforms

The uniforms for Girl Scout members vary depending on their age group. The youngest Girl Scouts are called Daisy’s. These girls are 5 and 6 years of age. Their uniform is a teal smock that goes over the head and ties on both sides. It features to large pockets in the front that serve to hold their supplies during activities.

The next group of Girl Scouts are called brownies. These girls range in age from 6-8. Their uniform consists of a white t-shirt with the green Girl Scouts logo. Over it they were a brown vest. The bottom half of the uniform is generally kaki pants or shorts.

Juniors are girls from 8-11 years of age. Their uniform consists of a green vest that is worn over a white shirt with the green Girl Scouts logo. The bottom part of the uniform is generally kaki pants or shorts. For girls 11-17 there is no set Girl Scout uniform. Instead the troops are allowed to come up with their own uniform. Their final decision has to be approved by the Girl Scouts of America council.

All of the Girl Scout uniforms are the same for each troop in a given age group with the exception of the 11-17 age group. During various Girl Scout gatherings the way individual Girl Scout troops are recognized is through their troop number located on their Girl Scout uniform.

Anyone wearing a Girl Scout uniform needs to understand they represent their Girl Scout troop as well as the entire Girl Scout organization. Therefore it is important that uniforms are kept clean and neat. Each of the pins, patches, and emblems earned need to be positioned correctly on the uniform as well.

Most Girl Scout troops use the funds from the annual cookie sells to purchase their uniforms. Sometimes girls are asked to cover a portion of the uniform cost due to not enough funding to pay for them all.
