Federal Jury Duty
If you get called for jury duty it can be on different levels. There are the local courts, state courts, and federal courts. Federal jury duty is something that is a little different than the local or state jury duty because you will be the jury on larger scale crimes such as kidnapping charges, especially if they crossed multiple state borders, and anything that has to do with federal as opposed to state or local crimes. Jury duty is something that a lot of people enjoy doing because they have a chance to be part of the judicial process.
When it comes to getting called for federal jury duty there are some things to keep in mind. First, if you get called you absolutely need to show up. If you do not show up you could get taken to the court room by law enforcement officials and then get slammed with a fine. The fine could be quite expensive, too. Another thing to keep in mind is that the government understands that getting called for federal jury duty can be hard on the schedule and on their lives so they give you some compensation. It may not be a lot, but $40 a day at least shows the jurors that their time has value. Also, just because you get called for jury duty does not mean you will actually be needed after the first day. More people usually get called than what are needed. They then go through a screening process.
Another thing to keep in mind is that your current employer cannot fire you for getting called for jury duty. And if you work on salary, they can’t suspend pay. They need to continue paying you. However, if you work by the hour, you will not get paid. But if your place of work gives you a problem for getting called for federal jury duty, keep in mind that certain things are illegal.
Some people would very much like to avoid jury duty. This is not a good thing. However, if you really do not want to do it, then you can find a way to get cut after the screening process so you don’t need to show up anymore. Federal jury duty is on a much larger scale than other types of jury duty.
