Jury Duty Pay

Jury duty is one of those things that can really disrupt your life. That is why jury duty pay is a nice idea. Think of it this way. Most people who show up for jury duty are getting pulled away from their jobs. In some places, all this means is that they will not be getting paid. A lot of people out there work by the hour and are not on salary. Being on salary is one thing, but getting paid by the hour is quite another. That is where jury duty pay would come in handy. A program like that could really help people who will have a hard time making ends meet because of jury duty.

However, there are some places that do not pay you for jury duty. A lot of the time it is up to the employer to make sure that the workers still get paid for something like jury duty. However, not everyone complies with this. But the courts themselves also offer some amount of pay that can help ease the financial burden that being on the jury may cause. In the case of federal jury duty, the pay is around $40 a day. This is not much, but it is something. And it makes people feel as if their time has a value. If people do not get paid for their jury duty it may cause them to not put their whole effort into it. This could mean missing some key evidence and allowing a criminal to walk free or free person to end up in jail.

Many people do not feel as if the jury duty pay is enough so they decide to avoid jury duty. This could be costly. There are fines out there for people who do not show up at all. Some places charge as much as $1500 dollars if you do not show up and will get the law enforcement after you. It is better to try to fail the screening process. Even though $40 a day for jury duty is pretty good, it does not necessarily make up for hundreds of dollars that could be lost. Hopefully, the employer would cooperate and pay you anyway.
